The couture trade is nothing short of absurd. You’re not getting a top 6 established C with outstanding playoff numbers and strong defensive play for a below average prospect, a cap dump and a lousy pick. Lol it’s just plain terrible.

If the Sharks are horrible this year (I think they will be), then Couture to Buffalo next summer makes a lot of sense. A cap dump, like Okposo, coming back to accommodate salary also makes sense but your futures package is really weak.

That's because I am taking on 48 million in cap for a 33 year old and handing you back less than 14 (less than 12 if its after okposo's bonus). Also assumes mittelstadt has a solid year to earn that raise

Really weak? That’s kind. I’m an Avs fan and the Sharks are one of the teams I think will surprise people, assuming they stay relatively healthy and get average goal tending.

I doubt that’s all that Couture is worth. If that’s all Doug Wilson can get for him, I expect he will just keep him to shelter the young players and provide leadership through the rebuild.

There wont be much of a rebuild if they cant move these giant contracts

They won’t be able to move all of the big contracts anyways. This kind of trade does little to change that. I think it will be a long rebuild. Now, if you want Vlasic without retention, then you can get a steal of a deal.

Okposo coming back makes absolutely zero sense for SJ and the only way it works is if an A level prospect, a middle six established NHLer and a 1st come with him.

Okposo cap dump is worth a first on its own. Couture’s contract isn’t good but he still has positive value. Not an awful idea, but there needs to be more incentive here for the Sharks.
