They would probably want gaudreu or Lindholm instead. If you’re building a package around monohan you probably need to add another prospect or player (dubé, mangi, Zary)

Monahan may be the best Center they could get back in a deal is what I’m thinking. Assuming jackets want to stay competitive he might be the best chance. I could see switching it up from a second to a first though.

Ya I get that he’s a centre and that’s what they need. However he’s coming off a down year so I think the return is underwhelming. If he bounces back maybe the trade is close next year.

Fair enough. Just couldn’t think of another team that would give up a a Center in his prime(down year aside which was flames wide).

Theses a team just a couple yrs north of Calgary that has a centre that would be a better option RNH

I mean Dubois didn’t exactly do too hot this year either. He only had one more point than Monahan, and 4 less goals. Monahan had a better first 3 years in the league than Dubois has had too. The only reason the Flames would be adding is because Dubois is better defensively and younger, but Monahan still has 3 years left on an affordable contract (and is only 26, that’s not old at all), plus PLD will demand a hefty raise after this is done (QO higher than Monahan’s current deal). Goals talk too, and Monahan already has three 30+ goal seasons. I really don’t think PLD is worth as much as people on here seem to think he is. He’s an okay 1C, wouldn’t call him close to top 15 really. Would he be an upgrade on Monahan? Yes defensively, but maybe not offensively. Flames add, but not a whole lot. He’s also not worth some of the other absurd packages I’ve seen, like Laine+Roslovic (usually with the Jets adding more for some reason lol). As mentioned by someone else, this is also the best deal CBJ is likely to get that includes a quality centre, and one with proven goal-scoring experience, in return. I honestly think CBJ would be adding if they tried to get Laine, 50 goal guys are more rare than 60 point centres (generous, as he’s hit that only once, barely) and most other offers are futures only.

Oilers don’t really need Dubois with the big two Hopkins has had proven chemistry as well. Plus he’d need an extension for jackets to consider

Yes he needs a extension but could easily be negotiate before being traded he’s a better centre then Monahan
The trade works if RNH wants too much money and the oilers look to move him, Dubois would easily slide into the hole left both 97 and 29 are easy to play with so chemistry wouldn’t be a concern
Personal RNH resigns and retires a Oiler he’s a Swiss Army knife in terms as a hockey player, but Dubois is young and would ride shotgun with McDavid for the next 10 yrs
