Bruins after Trade Deadline

Description
I don't expect Nashville to be a playoff team so it wouldn't surprise me if they are sellers at the trade deadline. I traded Bjork, Vaakanainen, and a 2nd rd pick for Ekholm who can eat big minutes for the Bruins. Nashville gets a young middle-six, 2-way winger in Bjork who adds some depth to their LW chart, a young defenseman in Vaakanainen who was a previous 1st rd pick who might not produce a lot in the NHL level but has the skating, transitioning, and defensive play to be a solid top-four option going forward, and a 2nd rd pick (more picks could be added if needed). Ekholm would add a a veteran presence to what is now a young blueline for Boston and he can be relied upon for both offense and defense. I expect Studnicka to solidify a spot in the top-nine. I can also see any combination of Kuraly, Wagner, Lindholm, Ritchie, Frederic, and McKegg in the mix for the 4th line. Lauzon, Clifton, Moore, Miller, and Zboril all in the mix for 3rd pair minutes. I definitely expect Boston to be competitive again this year but if they are going to remain contenders they need a solid LD option that can eat big minutes and provide both offense/defense. I like Boston's forward depth, I think ppl are sleeping on Kase and he has potential to produce. Smith was a great pickup that adds more goal scoring to the middle-six and Studnicka might not ooze elite potential but I imagine he'll be a consisent 20 goal 50pt 2-way center for the B's for yrs to come. It also wouldn't shock me if Frederic takes the next step and earns the 4th line center role allowing Kuraly to move to the wing where he can be more relentless on the forecheck and in the O-zone. Overall, Im excited for the season and while I did say I expect Boston to be a playoff team, it also wouldn't shock me if they missed the playoffs especially if they start the season off flat due to the marchand and pasta injuries as well as being in a tough division. Cheers to what should be a very interesting season.

Good trade IMO. I do however think it'll be a 1st and drop Bjork. Not a huge difference in value IMO, but a 1st seems to be a must for TDL moves.

Agreed. Marchand will be ready. Kase and Smith play RW. Studnicka will probably be on the 4th line/taxi squad/AHL unless there's an injury.

You say that you don't see Nashville as a playoff team but I think this should be the other way around. Preds will likely be closer to a playoff team than Boston. Bruins are going to be without Marchand and Pastrnak to start the season, which in a shortened season makes that loss even bigger. Not to mention that they did nothing to improve their defence. And with the new division, I'm not sure they make it over teams like Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington, Islanders, or the Rangers. I can't see them being buyers at the deadline and even more so I don't see them moving Vaakanainen who they've been high on for years.

As a Preds fan my expectations are definitely tempered this year, but with the addition of Granlund/Haula I think we are right on the bubble. We would have to be pretty far out of contention to trade Ekhy and that would surprise me. And as mentioned above I think Boston will also be a bubble team this year.

That said, if we are out of it then I like your trade. As mentioned above I think it takes a 1st instead of a 2nd to get Ehky because he has another year on his deal. I’d still prefer us to trade him for a closer to NHL ready stud forward prospect because I don’t think we go full rebuild.

Marchand will be ready to start the season per Don Sweeney and Pasta isn't that far behind. The Bruins won the President's trophy last season and despite losing Chara and Krug their forward core is pretty strong especially down the middle and they have a great goaltending tandem. In all honesty, I don't see the B's as a true contender but definitely a playoff team. Who knows though, hockey is random and I guess it wouldn't shock me if this was the year the B's finally regress.

Hahahaha I only corrected you on Marchand and I don't think you will need to remind us on anything. You should care more about your team wink

Not worried about the Leafs at all actually. For all the haters out there, they fail to see that the Leafs actually went out and upgraded all their weaknesses. What had Boston done to upgrade anything?

Leafs bottom-6 is worse and they signed that pylon of Bogosian. Bruins added Smith who's one of the best 5v5 players and a scorer, which they needed (and one of the best signings in the offseason).

That trade defies logic. That would mean not protecting one of Ekholm, McAvoy, Carlo or Grzelcyk in the expansion draft and losing him to Seattle while at the same time giving away the only high end d prospect the Bruins have just to be able to do so.

Lol. That "pylon" was just a major part of a cup championship. Or are you still salty over them beating you?
Smith is bottom 6 player. He's not going to add much offence at all, great add wink
Bottom 6 is worse in Toronto? You'd likely be one of the guys that last season said they needed to get tougher to play against. So they add veteran leadership and grit, and now it's worse? Anderson was a steal of an add for a guy that they had to lose because of the cap. They bring in 2 vets on league minimum for leadership that will play mostly PP mins anyways. Much rather have them than a guy like Ritchie who takes nothing but bad penalties. Pretty sure Leafs bottom 6 are better than the Bruins and I'm absolutely positive the whole Leafs team is better than the Bruins.. but sure. Believe what you want and Craig Smith who was "one of the best signings of the off-season" lmao
