Description
Keep in mind that these are just my predicted standings at the end of January, and not my final picks. I am making these predictions by picking a winner for every single game this season an tallying up the teams win/loss/ot totals, which can take a while, and is why I'm doing it piece by piece. The Oilers got hot at the end of the month, and will enter February on a 4 game win streak. Montreal is sitting there in 5th, but they only have played 8 games so they look worse than they actually are. St Louis and Vegas split there games together, but in the second meeting, St Louis put on a show in a 6-2 thumping of the Golden Knights. The Avalanche boast the best record in hockey after the first few weeks, winning 8 of their first 10 games and losing one in overtime. Tampa Bay looked good in their first few games, sweeping Chicago and picking up three points in two games with Dallas. However, they didn't look as good while they split two games with the Blue Jackets, and they then got swept by a Carolina team that looked better than ever in the first month. In the East, the Flyers got off to a great start, but had a few bad losses including those to Boston and New Jersey. The Bruins took both of their first two games from the Devils, which, despite an embarassing loss to the Islanders in which New York's playmakers simply overpowered the B's young d-core, gave them confidence before they picked up a respectable 5 points in 4 home games against the Flyers and Penguins. The Sabers failed to live up to the hype they were getting preseason, although their schedule did them no favors.

Sabres have been really good the past two years at the start. I can’t see them in last place.

Montreal and Buffalo always start strong. Boston won’t start too good without March and Pasta

Chicago will be dead last in that division.... mark my words. No Toews, no Dach... they're screwed.

Montreal will be better than that too.

Nah Leafs usually (though not last year) have a ridiculous start, cool off a bit, and then ramp it back up at the end of the regular season. I think they'll be higher at the start, then dip down to about #3, and then back up to #1

yep, Vancouver next to Ottawa is a team that is to far from acheiving first in the Canadian division. This is mainly due to all the lost assets and goaltending as Demko yes had a good playoffs but when Markstrom got hurt during the regular season he struggled hard even letting a guy like Marincin score. Holtby may bounce back but with a weaker dcore in front of him no idea how he will do. That said they could get 4th spot if Edmonton struggles without Klefbolm but thats a big IF.

more realistic is

1. Toronto
2. Montreal
3. Calgary
4. Edmonton
5. Winnipeg
6. Vancouver
7. Ottawa

Nope. He’s at camp and by all reports ready to go. Puckpedia lists him as day to day.
