No. it'll just upset the 30 teams that don't win it.

It'll just upset other teams, but I am a little curious how much TOR would spend for a 1st round pick. They'd certainly outbid anyone. Again, not that I'd actually do it.

32 - the team that wins - Arizona, i would assume they can't win their own draft pick. 30.

no, taking it away from the Yotes is a punishment not a reward to 1 of the 31 other teams in a bidding system.
Plus it would hurt the other teams who didnt get the pick bc now the team has additional leverage in the offseason.

ITs a punishment for 1 team only, not ultimately 31 teams

No team should benefit from Arizona's penalty.

The actual penalty just means one fewer player is picked in that draft, because the next pick becomes one spot better, and so on until the final pick. The only draft eligible player that losses out is the very last player that would have been picked in that years draft.

No, that is even dumber than allowing the play-in losers into the lottery last year. And that was pretty dumb.

That 2nd draft lottery was a sham, and Bettman gave the best odds to that group of teams. Only Ottawa had a better chance, at half a percent better, but it took two of the best three draft positions combined to get there.

24.5% 2nd draft lottery
18.5% Detroit Red Wings
13.5% Ottawa Senators
11.5% San Jose (Ottawa Senators)
9.5% Los Angeles Kings
8.5% Anaheim Ducks
7.5% New Jersey Devils
6.5% Buffalo Sabres

The NHL is going to do something very similar with the Coyotes as they did with the Devils after the Kovalchuk incident: the Coyotes, especially if they finish towards the bottom of the league, are probably going to get the #32 pick by default such that despite where they finish, they'll be exempt from the lottery.

The league doesn't take its own punishments seriously and stripping a franchise of a top pick if they're in range of the draft lottery is an exceptional way to kneecap any chances of success in that market for years to come.
