Lines and Reasoning

Description
1st Line - Kassian will get the first crack on the right side. If he plays how he did in the play in, maybe Archibald gets a shot. From what I've seen and heard from Kahun is that his offence and finishing is underrated. Lots of people think he starts with Draisaitl, which is entirely possible.

2nd Line - One of the best, if not the best line in the NHL from January until the stoppage. Keep them together. McDavid will do McDavid things no matter who is on his line.

3rd Line - Solid mix of skill and size. Turris is a good fit for the 3C, and this line should be able to provide secondary scoring. If Puljujarvi shows well, maybe he get moved into the Top 6. Had good results with 97 in the past and also showed some chemistry with Leon. James Neal was very solid when he was healthy last year and his ankle/foot injury sort of derailed a potentially great bounceback season. Good, safe line in my opinion.

4th Line - I really think McLeod can surprise and earn a spot. With 2 vets flanking him, he can play some sheltered minutes and get some easy matchups. The speed on this line could be a big factor. Could see this line providing some sneaky secondary scoring. If Kassian isn't producing with 97, he and Archibald are easily interchangable.

Other - Khaira has been very underwhelming. Was part of a good PK last year but a lot of that was based on systems. If he doesn't have a good camp, he could be waived.
I don't really see where Chiasson fits. If there are injuries on the right side then you can plug him in.

I still think swapping Kahun, and Nuge is the best option.. Nuge and McDavid played very well in the play in. Kassian can play with them for now, unless Puljujarvi does very well and makes it to the first line. Draisaitl and Yamamoto have unbelievable chemistry, and throw in Kahun, and that could be deadly. I say swap Neal, and Ennis as well, because Neal is just a PP specialist, and Ennis is actually pretty decent!

Maybe so. I just think the drop off from removing Nuge from the 2nd Line is greater than what the benefit is of adding him to the 1st Line. RNH has great chemistry with Leon and Yamo, which is what makes that line so great.

I honestly don’t think removing Nuge from the second line would be a bad move. Yamamoto already proved last year that he is starting to click with Draisaitl, and the Edmonton Oilers. Now you would have Nuge, and McDavid which would be pretty good, and Draisaitl with Yamamoto and they already proved they have good chemistry. Kassian is already good with McDavid, and Kahun could make that second line really good! Either way it will be good, I just like my way. And I believe Kahun, and Draisaitl played together in Germany, if so they have good chemistry, if I’m thinking of the right player.

Honestly... not a fan of it. I say we don’t rush him, because I don’t think he’s ready for the NHL. I would rather play one of Khaira, or Haas there, and play McLeod one more year in the AHL for more practice and to get better before making the NHL team.

RNH-Draisaitl-Yamamoto were so good last year, it's gonna be a real shame when Tippett refuses to play them together this season so that we can have a more "balanced" roster.

McLeod's potential is as a bottom 6 forward. I really don't see him playing in the NHL on the 4th line as rushing him since his ceiling is likely the third line. He had great production in Europe this fall, keeping pace with guys like Puljujarvi and Lavoie in a very good league. I think he'll get a good look in camp but still has to outplay guys like Haas, Khaira and Shore for a roster spot. He'll probably spend the season in the AHL but I don't think it's a stretch to think he's fully capable of contributing in the NHL right now.

If he’s playing we would be rushing him. I don’t care if he is supposed to be a 3c, as I already knew that. If one player isn’t ready for the pro league, that would be rushing, and then that could go towards... lack of confidence, struggle etc. We should play him in the AHL for a year and see what he does. Yah he did good that that league, but it’s lower than the AHL league is. That doesn’t look ready to me.

He's coming in hot and in mid-season form - that could be a huge deal with a short camp and zero pre-season games. I have no problem with him on the starting roster for game 1, you can always pull him back as others get up to speed.

Love the lines and pairings, I'd like to see Koekkoek with Barrie but I doubt we'll see that from Tippett for game 1. Which is understandable. He'll want 'familiar' and 'veteran' where he can get it.
