Not sure how you figure that. What I see is only 4 players who will be regulars in the NHL this season, all 23+, with no sort of bridge to the next generation at all.

Because thats how the good ones get experience and develop into NHL players.

What are talking about? Sandin and Liljegren will likely be regulars next season. Robertson as well. And many of the others will be cheap depth within the next 2-3 seasons. Meanwhile Nylander will only be 27/28 by then.

Literally every person in the world says prospects should be developed with patience. And yet when it comes to everyone on this site, if they aren't regulars by 19 they are busts.

And players in the NHL take time to develop. Even if Sandin, Liljegren and Robertson are regulars as soon as next season, they will still take 3-4 years to develop into their NHL potential. By the time they achieve that, all the current young guys will be becoming UFAs, moving out of their primes, etc, etc. The Leafs missed an entire generation of prospects behind the current core to fill the holes. Insteadthey get the depth signings like Simmonds and top 6 players like 41 year old Thornton and Jimmy Thornton to make due. Thats not a dynasty being created.

Hilarious. Crosby is still considered a top 3 player at 32 and yet all the Leafs players will be declining at 27. And of course all will leave in UFA. It's a foregone conclusion. What a joke

You went from 0 to 100 for nothing. The reality is the age curve starts to decline around 27. That may not be true for every player but it is the average for all players. Also never said all will leave but its extremely likely 1 of 5-6 will and likely at least 1 of the big 3. As teams age, players get worse and some leave. This is true of every team and hasn't been/won't be different for the Leafs. So far the Leafs have been unable to fill the holes created and thats a big factor into they havn't been competitors. There's no end to that reality in sight especially as the holes left behind become bigger.

That is primarily nonsense. Who of Tampa's core left? Which of Pittsburgh's? How about Chicago? Or Boston? And I am speaking of when they were in their prime still. The answer is none. The Leafs haven't been competitors yet because as one can see by this post, they are still incredibly young.

You're kidding right? Those teams have had massive turn over, especially Chicago.

Calling the Leafs incredibly young is just demonstrably wrong and a bad excuse for you to use. Their expected roster is the 2nd oldest in the NHL and its not just guys like Thornton driving the age up. They only have 4 NHL players under 25, only 2 under 24 and even then Marner will turn 24 during the season, the other being Matthews at 23. There is nothing young about the Leafs anymore.

Core players. Sir. Core players. The Leafs will have turn over on the periphery every season. So long as Dubas continues to not overpay depth and give term he'll be fine. Chicago on many occasions gave 3rd line playoff hero's big term and money and it killed them. Then they paid their stars in their later years when they couldn't carry the team anymore. Yes the average age in TO is older now, and it very much has to do with adding Vets to the bottom of the lineup. Apart from Muzzin and Brodie. But to call them old is silly and to ignore that their stars are for the most part still very young is stupid. Matthews, Nylander and Marner are 24 or younger. Rielly is 26 and they have many young guys coming up who will push for time when the old periphery moves on

I mean we can remove those vets from the bottom of the lineup and they are still one of the older ones. Average age is 28.5 with Thornton gone for example which has the massive effect of moving them from the 2nd oldest to the 3rd. Theres nothing 'very young' about guys in their mid 20s. The core is in their prime right now and quickly heading towards free agency years. You claim there are young guys coming up who will push for time but really they are years out. The Leafs have needed those young guys to be pushing now and they simply arn't. By the time they will be pushing, the core will be in their UFA years and starting down the wrong side of the aging curve even if they do keep them. There's no dynasty in the making here when you look past the Leafs fan bias you've shown to the facts.

A typical anti leaf response. They will have succeed and the facts prove it because you say so. Just the usual nonsense.

If you havn't noticed, I'm a Leafs fan. You are just out there in la la land. The odds of a UFA re-signing is about 50/50. Even if you up that massively to 75% because they are 'core', odds are still good one of those 3 core guys will leave. This idea that no one will leave because you like them is as make believe as the rest of the arguments you've tried to use here. The only usual nonsense in here have been your ridiculous takes trying to argue that an old team is young and that no one will leave. If the pure logic of the numbers seems like a 'typical anti leaf response' to you, the problem isn't them, its you.

There has been literally 1 top level FA to leave his team and that player was JT going to TO. And it's somehow 50/50. If you are a leaf fan you have fallen victim to group thought on this site where all leaf players are leaving and the ones that don't are all bad or declining. The Leafs have a window of contention that is 7 years at least. Matthews will be in his 30's before he shows any signs of declining and until then, they have the star power to be a contender. He is the one that will carry the team to the cup. And his career is the length of window. The rest doesn't matter. He's young and the younger guys behind him, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren, Amirov etc will take over for the likes of Muzzin, Brodie, and everyone else. Besides beyond JT, Spezza, Thorton and Simmonds there is exactly zero forwards who are 30. Three of those players will not be here next year. Those old guys are here to teach the younger guys a greater sense of urgency and I believe it will lead to a deep playoff run and that will in turn allow the young core to learn what it takes to win. And since Dubas is so good at drafting, I think there will always be a super high level of skill to fill out the roster with cheap productive depth.

What other top FA left the team that drafted them in FA? Please name 1 in this current era.

Funny that you felt the need to move the goal post to who drafted them like it somehow matters. Out here in the real world in the last couple of years, Panarin, Bobrovsky and Duchene immediately come to mind and thats from only 1 team.

/edit Of course how could I forget Taylor Hall just this offseason.
/edit 2 Geez, how could I forget Petro who left the Blues at the earliest opportunity.
/edit 3 We probably shouldn't forget both Laine and Dubois who have made it clear they want to be moved. Danault would fit into this category too even though he hasn't made it as clear.
