Toews needs to figure his health out before he wants anything.

He is going into a contract year and is basically a rental until signed. Jets fans would have a welcome home parade for Toews especially with the contract retention and the prospect and picks coming along with him.

this is a straight up garbage offer on Laine.
"contract year" nothing. They got control, He's not a rental.

Did Toews not just release a statement basically saying he was unclear if he could play hockey anymore because of health concerns? Or did I miss something.

Yes he did but it was very vague and almost sounded like depression. His behavior this offseason has openly led the fan base to believe he wants no part of a rebuild.

You think he is choosing not to report to training camp because of depression? I highly doubt that. Maybe he has depression, but he wouldn't quit on his team. He's not that kind of guy.

Sounds like you don't know the difference between a UFA and an RFA.

I don't think Toews wants out or would quit on his team. If he wanted out he knows the best thing he could do is come to camp ready to play and try to start off the season strong.
As far as his mystery illness, it could be post-concussion syndrome as depression and lethargy are sometimes symptoms.
As a reminder, players over 30 with 10.5M cap hits are going to be really tough with the projected flat cap for the next 2 seasons. I think the salary retention would have to be closer to the 4-5M range, and look for picks/prospects, not young RFA's with multiple 30 goal seasons in their resume.

Oh I do but the way Laine is digging in he won't take bridge deal my point being is you have to offer lots of new cash to him at the end of the year if you want to keep him around.

The Jets own Laine's rights for 3 more years, he is under contract for this year and there have been no reports of what he wants on his next contract. Winnipeg isn't under any pressure to move Laine.
