Description
They finish 2nd on the West and give COL a run. For the record, I think offer sheets are dumb. But, then again, Lou isn’t playing this too well.

No from Winnipeg on the trade and I would have to think the Islanders match that offer sheet.

Although the forwards are good, they can’t carry the defense and goaltending. They probably finish 4th or 3rd in the West

Sorry I must have misunderstood. Did you just say the Wild defense needs to be carried?

I think keep Suter and Spurge together they work.
Jets probably don't take that entire cap hit.
Barzal wants the Marner contract from what I've heard
So Wild need to find more cap space.

Winnipeg offered ehlers for dumba straight ups, so you could take mojo off that trade and make barzal closer to 9.5m.

For cap - well they will trade bonino, bjustad, Pateryn and mojo during the season or at tdl. So that’ll fix a lot of the cap issues. So I would be less worried about that. I’d say do the OS and then let some of the newbies take shots and see who can play and who can’t. Then fill holes next offseason.

Instead of just saying wings pass, i would say the wings might actually have interest in Greenway, but i think it would be a 3rd rounder, seeing as he was originally a 2nd 5 years ago, and is just now cracking the NHL and is no way going to make the be consistent top 6,

so id personally take a try on him for a 3rd (note: another team might give up a 2nd) but Yzerman and the wings are big on retaining their own higher picks and using late rounders to find gems in players that didnt work out elsewhere

How many games have you watched him play? What have you seen from him that makes you think he won't be a consistent top 6 player?

3rd would probably be fine in this case. I had to clear salary and figure DET would want a young winger with upside for cheap, no other reason than that.

Thing is, they would need to move money out before the season. I threw Mojo there since Perrellaut got hurt in cap and he’s a similar cap hit. I figure Bonino would get traded in season when value is higher. Just thought I’d run the exercise here and see if moves could be made that turn the Wild into a real contender.

I mean probably not as much as a hard core Wild fan, but id say enough to argue I would give a 3rd, not a 2nd, and ill explain why. The guys big and actually has a good shot, pretty quick release

But typically a 2nd rounder who has high top 6 potential doesnt take 6 years to get into the NHL, although he has a little speed he isnt super agile and its kinda noticeable when he isnt in the play, hes been up and down the Wild line up, alot of the time playing 4th line and like 10 min a night with the Wild.. Hes not super defensive but he can throw a good hit. I remember there being rumors he didnt have the best attitude either.

Im saying again, another team might be willing to give a 2nd, maybe. However he also could be a loss for 0 if Seattle takes him which is possible.

I would call him a good bottom 6 forward that COULD fill top 6 roll from time to time but isnt going to hang with Mantha / Larkin Hopefully Raymond. He would be a good Abdelkader replacement since he fell off.

There's just no way Guerin would move Greenway and his 2M salary for a 3rd just to clear cap space. There are a dozen moves he could make before he resorts to that. Including getting a better return for Greenway.

I agree. Greenway is solid but he's not going to bring in a 2nd. Now he is still young so maybe down the road a bit.

To everyone saying Greenway can't return a 2nd, Luke Kunin and a 4th just returned Nick Bonino (worth anywhere from a late 1st to a 3rd at the deadline, we'll call it a 2nd right now), a 2nd, and a 3rd. Greenway has just as much value as Kunin did.

lol hey man, im trying to be positive and explain wings fans thoughts, we are going to draft high, so would another team trade a late 1st round for him? Likely . No. So call it what you want, but a wings 3rd round is what we would give up, doesnt mean you have to do it

I have no issue with Wings fans not wanting to give up their 2nd for him. The issue is when your reasons are things like "it's taken 5 years for him to make the NHL and his ceiling is as a 3rd liner, so because he weas a 2nd round pick, he's only worth a 3rd". That's nonsensical, it's not rooted in reality.

Look at players like Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi who didn't make it into the NHL full time until 4-5 years after their draft, and they went on to improve on their rookie seasons. Another past Red Wings pick, Tomas Tatar, took 5 years to become a full time NHLer, and he's having some of his best seasons in his late 20s. it's absolutely ridiculous to cap Greenway as a third liner at this point.

Again, saying YOU wouldn't give up more than a 3rd for him is entirely fair, but your justification is scuffed, and the fact that you're basing it off of a very minimal amount of time spent watching him makes it even worse. I'll be honest, I watched exactly 2 Red Wings games last season. I find it hard to believe you watched any more Wild games than that.

First off i said typically, it isnt impossible for a second round pick to take that long and be a top 6 guy, theres obviously hall off famers selected super late, anything is possible,

Second off, Holland was notorious for keeping guys buried for FAR too long, so Mantha and the other guys you referred to likely would have made into the NHL far faster had they not been drafted by Detroit

Lastly, Mantha specifically even when he did get to the Bigs, he wasnt so hot and there were MANY rumors he would / should be traded for 2nd / 3rd round or other B level prospects, obviously im happy to not have done that but his value AT THAT TIME, was exactly that.. what he was doing, so why would a team give up a 1st round pick for a guy that was drafted 5-6 years ago and hasnt proven he can compete for a top 6 role rather than just taking another chance on a guy they want in their own draft choice?

so im referring to Greenway based on where he is today, not next year, not 3 years from now,

could he eventually turn into a top 6? Maybe, i dont personally think so.. but the Wild are welcome to hang on to him and see where he pans out, again they could likely see him snagged by Seattle, he could continue to be exactly what weve seen, which IN MY OPINION is a 3rd line power forward, which to some teams would be worth a 2nd rounder, for the wings, a 3rd, and some of that is based on where we draft

and for the record, i probably watched 6-8 Wild games last year, which isnt a lot, but im certain i cant be the only person who doesnt see an allstar in the making.
