1.
TOR
  1. Nylander, Alexander [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Nylander goes somewhere where he has some friends in Sandin and his brother, gets to play with some great players and some good leadership, and is given the opportunity to reach his potential.

Leafs take another gamble, but that's what cap pressed teams need to do to fill the lineup.
CHI
  1. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Hawks get a guy who's gonna be a fine two-way bottom 6 F. Lower ceiling than Nylander but more likely to stick it as a quality NHL player.

Plus, Nylander likely needs a change of scenery and probably won't get too much better in Chicago.

That seems heavy for a 23 year old with not a lot of NHL success coming off of a full sidelined season and surgery. (ya he's not 23 yet but when he plays hockey next he will be)

I'd love to see the portion of Leaf fans that would aggressively **** their pants if they got another Nylander...

Alex Nylander is a riddle wrapped in an enigma. He's out for essentially the year. So just know that going into the trade. He gets a bad reputation because of Sabres fans knocking him for years. His "lack of effort"...I didn't see that in Chicago. I thought he worked hard and was actually a better player when on the bottom pair than top pair. I hope he gets better and plays for CHI next year. I don't think ANY team should want to trade for Nylander. They're VERY LIKELY going to have to overpay...even overpay for whatever general CHI fans think. Stan got a lot of flack for trading away Joki and flipping Nylander wouldn't look good at all. And then...why would any other team trade for an injured question mark? Other teams have these prospects already in their system.

well from a Leafs perspective we need to take a chance on some cheaper guys with upside. You see that on this team already; taking vets like Simmonds and Thornton and playing them in hopes of a rejuvenation. More comparably, signing Vesey and throwing him in the top 6 to see if there's upside left. I think the Leafs would be willing to make a trade for him to try to give him a fresh start with good support and try to make something out of him while he's on a cheap AAV. I think they'd be willing to take the gamble on this "injured question mark".

Agreed. Bowman made a bad trade to get Nylander. He's not gonna admit he was wrong that quickly. It'd take a decent overpay. Nylander is pretty frustrating to watch. He makes a great play and you want him getting more minutes then later in that same game he makes bonehead play and you want him benched.
This would've been a great season for him to play with lower team expectations. Can't see him being more than a bottom 6 guy at this point

But I don't think NHL GM's are that petty. If he thinks Engvall + a 4th makes the team better, I'm sure he takes it. I also see Nylander like I saw Bracco though, top 9 or bust. At least with Engvall Hawks get the certainty that he can be a great fourth liner, and a decent 3rd liner, but of course whatever upside Nylander has left is lost if you go for Engvall

The hawks have about 3 lines worth of 4th line players. Think they'd rather risk nylander than settle for engvall. Trading away cheap young players with potential isn't the best way to rebuild

Nope. Hawks arent trading someone with upside (even if theyre out the year) for somone that is a bottom 6 player which we have plenty of.

So the reason I said NO team should trade for Nylander is because Engvall ain't it. Just about every team has an Engvall. He's just not good enough to trade for. Engvall is closer to a Bracco. Wait a bit and you might be able to sign him without trading any assets. Its more like Roni Hirvonen...PLUS. thats why no team should do it. I certainly wouldn't do it if I were TOR.

Fair enough. I see what you mean. The point of this trade for me was exploring whether CHI would accept a young bottom 6 F that is moulded for that 3rd/4th line PK role for Nylander if it seems that he won't pan out to be an effective middle 6 F

Problem is Hawks have plenty of players/prospects that can replicate Engvall so he's not going to cut it in a trade to get Alex Nylander; a 4th rounder is close to worthless as statistically a 4th rounder has about a 15% shot of becoming a NHL player. Toronto would have to step up and give a 2nd rounder to get the conversation started.
