Sure bud, and the Matthews is leaving when he hits FA as will Nylander and Marner. JT is going to score 30 points this year because he's obviously declining huge and Dubas will get fired because you want them to bleed because you are still heart broken JT left. Lou sucks

I mean it is very possible matthews walks if the leafs don’t win a cup in the next 4 years. That’s very realistic.

I could care less about tavares. I hope he scores 50 goals next season and the leafs come in 1st place - but then they’ll get bounced in the 1st rd of the playoffs like they do every year.

Lou is not a good GM, thanks for letting me know!

Oh I am absolutely positive you could care less because it's driving you to hate the Leafs way too much.

It is pretty fun to see you finally coming around on Lou, I remember not long ago you were so proud of him. But as your team ages and the 30+ year olds making way to much will decline and your cap will be shot and your team will be nothing. Saw it coming for 2 years and finally you guys are coming around. Now hopefully ownership will come around and fire Lou and maybe someone like Dubas can come and right the ship.

Rielly probably signs for 7-8 million you’re right, but there’s still no way you can afford to give another big contract like that. Good luck signing Kumpar unless he takes a massive pay cut to play for Toronto. Toronto will have massive glaring holes unless they ship some big pieces out. It’s unsustainable to have 5 guys making nearly $50 million...

It absolutely is sustainable, the key is never overpaying periphery players, draft well and sign guys to bargain deals to round out the roster. In the very near future the middle class in the NHL will be gone, it already doesn't make sense but dumb GM's and overly loyal fans still have too much influence.

Every time leafs fans have high expectations and they end up losing in the first round , it gives me a nice serotonin boost!

Coming around on Lou? I’ve always said he’s average GM at best, but he’s a great POHO. You seem like you have a low IQ, everything you say usually the opposite happens. Looking forward to another year of the isles performing better than the leafs!

I disagree maybe on a shorter term he would be willing to sign for a little less, but looking at the league of D men and what they produce vs what they signed, even 8.25 is a steal. If he signed a 7-8 year deal hes gonna get at least 8,

Krug is getting 6.5 and Rielly is much better, Spurgeon gets 7.5, Rielly is better, Trouba at 8. Now im not saying i like those contracts personally, but we always go by what the league is being paid vs production and value and maybe he takes a small hit for covid cap but id argue that without that issue, he would likely get 9-10.. all his teammates got their payday, i cant imagine he just takes it on the chin because of a down covid year

But again, Leafs will make this work, and even at 8.25 or 8.5 or even 9... Its a good contract for the leafs, and they just need to move Nylander (which they should do anyway)

This is exactly the sort of thing that I find so hilarious. Everyone with even a mild bias against the Leafs on here will say, Rielly is just good offensively but a trainwreck defensively and then say all the guys who listed are better than him....right up until it's time for Rielly to get a contract and then he's going to be the most valuable defenceman in the world. Why? So they can justify him deserving a ridiculous amount of money.

No dude Rielly is legit great and thats the issue, a great D man is super hard to find and i just dont see him signing for anything less than 8

I think he’ll be tough to keep given dubas current cap situation. Nylander or Marner will have to be moved to keep Rielly

If the leafs don't sign Anderson, or maybe even Hyman I think it would be enough. But I would rather resign Rielly and trade Nylander than keep Nylander and let Rielly walk 1000% if it comes to that (for that matter even Marner).

I agree it’s important not to pay peripheral players too much, but it’s also very important to have your top guys take paycuts. Tampa, Pittsburgh, Chicago/LA (when they won cups), etc.. all have their core guys on very team friendly deals and look how well it’s worked out for them. Leafs won’t be able to afford a 7-8+ million Rielly on top of Tavares/Matthew’s/Marner/Nylander with a flat cap. Everyone knows this but some dense leaf fans like yourself

I personally think it will be very tight, especially if Rielly has another Norris caliber season

I agree it will be very tight. I'm worried Dubas might not be able to lock him up. If that happens, I might become a sens fan lol.

Such a bad post. Think Muzzin waives his NTC for Detroit. Really?
I don't think Reilly stays a Leaf. Some team will be mesmorized by his offensive stats and overpay him, which the Leafs can't do.

Muzzin could go anywhere. I just picked Detroit because they have the cap space

If sandin really breaks out it may not even be an issue tbh. Sorta like when the Pens had to let Gonchar walk and gave Letang the #1 role.

I don't think Sandin will get to Rielly's level though. He's probably going to be good, but I don't think he can be a number 1 d.

But he can't go "anywhere"...which is why it such a bad presumption. He has NTC. In last two NHL seasons, do you really think he going to poor team, just because the Leafs have a cap issue?
Yea he might want to go to Cup contender, but they likey can't take on his contract without sending cap back to the Leafs.

Whatever happens happens, I fully expect Dubas to once again make it all work. The "the Leafs have to trade their core" crowd will lose their minds.

They are also much better players so that would make sense. And your point isn’t even factually true. Matthew’s signed for 14.63% of the cap vs Sid at 14.5% when Crosby signed his second major contract. Didn’t even take a pay raise. Pens next highest signed player was also Letang who signed for 11.28% vs Marner at 13.37%.

I guess i ask, do you consider Nylander a core guy? Because if so, then yeah youll need to trade a core guy, IMO Rielly is a core guy, not nylander, and 4 guys taking up 50% of the cap likely isnt going to work. 5 guys after you add Rielly i would think makes it impossible.

Wings pass, this is 0% the wings direction. It would cost you to dump him to us, not the other way around. Trade him to a contender you get there back, trade him to wings, your paying for us to take that contract

And what of Malkin then? And also what about the mid range guys making too much? They had many players in the 3.5-5 range.

Yes Nylander is a core guy and has the best contract on the team. No he doesn't need to get traded. It is absolutely possible, people just don't have the imagination to understand how. A smart franchise puts a premium on drafting and development and adding valuable depth, never overpaying for it. Good development will add useful players for cheap to constantly change over the periphery support players and then sprinkle in veterans looking for reduced roles to go for it one last time and you have a good roster with zero bad contracts. Or do it the way everyone else does it and hand out 5 million dollar deals to 3rd liners or guys who only produce when they play with stars.

And Pietrangelo wanted 10 over 7 years but the pandemic made short work of that. Anyways go keep loving Lou for being a terrible GM.

He’s also playing in a state with no state income and minimal taxes compared to elsewhere (thanks casinos!)
