Not enough. Also, NYI have way too many D men. They would have no interest.

This is pure fantasy, but if the Isles traded JT, I'm sure they'd be open to blowing up the roster and who knows which D-men they'd hold on to.

Does inserting Schwartz for Steen make it fair?

Not nearly enough.

Shattenkirk: UFA after this year.
Steen: 37 years old at the end of current contract.
Barbashev: Promising youngster, but only ranked around 100th best NHL prospect this year.
2017 STL 1st: Late pick.

Considering that he said he'd take a pay cut with the NYR, I don't know how keen he is to re-signing with the Islanders.

Fantasy to think the deal hinges upon Shattenkirk agrees to an extension. It doesn't work like that during the season. Either make the trade or don't.

I've seen this mentioned before, but I've never found a source and frankly I have no idea why he would say that. Lately there have been mentions (by Jeremy Rutherford, a Blues writer) of him being open to a move to a west coast team, so it's definitely not a lock that he plays for the hometown Rangers.

Well I would agree. It doesn't hinge upon the extension, but it is already widely known that there are certain destinations that he would entertain the idea of re-signing with. Does that not add to his trade value for those destinations and detract value for anywhere else? That is the point I was trying to make.
