Playing RNH for 12 minutes a game at evens is a very strange way of making an "ideal" roster. If he's a point-per-game player on McDavid or Draisaitl's wing, why take him off of there?

Blueline pairings are a mess too.

James Neal bouncing back isn't the key this year. It's Jones being able to play at a top-4 level for the season and Puljujarvi being able to produce at the NHL level.

So? He's not on any other team?

RNH is Edmonton's only player on the wing expected to produce. Turris is a fine bounce-back candidate for #3C with sheltered minutes and the duo of Ennis and Puljujarvi starting on his flanks. Moving him to #3C because you think he's a #2C only serves to dilute Edmonton's offense, and that's the one thing that might get them into the playoffs in the Scotia Division.

Malkin played LW in 2006-07. Recchi was a near point-per-game winger that same season. The Pens had Sykora and Malone on the wings in 2007-08. Kunitz in 2010-11 produced near 0.75ppg. In 2011-12, the Penguins had a trio of wingers that hauled ass for them in Neal, Kunitz, and Dupuis. 2008-09 is the only year where the trio of Crosby-Malkin-Staal led the Penguins in scoring.

Edmonton does not currently have the strength on its wings to put Nugent-Hopkins in a #3C role. By virtue of signing Turris to a two-year deal, Holland himself expects RNH to play wing. Tippett deployed RNH primarily as a winger last season, and the lines from training camp suggests that there's no change to that plan.

For the foreseeable future, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is Edmonton's #1LW. Might want to reconsider your stance on this if you're the only person that believes he should be the #3C on a team with no legitimate firepower.

Why?

Keep DYNamite together
Get the D pairings right
Kass is not a LW
Why is Chiasson ahead of Ennis

Is it your expectation that Edmonton finishes 6th in the Scotia Division? Because this is how Edmonton finishes 6th in the Scotia Division.
