spezza and thornton scored more points/60 last year than montreal's entire roster subtract their top 4-5 players. Jimmy vesey has scored 16+ goals 3 times.

My one thing I don’t like with that stat:do they actually keep that production up with top line minutes/expanded roles?

probably. thornton is a passer. all we're doing is giving him radically better guys to pass to.

vesey scored those tons of goals playing the rangers top 6 and playing on the PP. Definitely wasn't playing with tavares/nylander calibre players. his dip this year was due to no PP time and playing on buffalo

spezza is in the same role he was in last year, 4th line depth guy, of which he was absolutely excellent

Jimmy Vesey make's me laugh. A Sabre's reject playing in the top 6.

I’m not so sure he can keep up with those guys/endurance for extra minutes at this age. Plus there’s a higher probability that he falls off the cliff at this age.

I disagree if you mean guys like Thornton as I don’t think he was what leafs need in their bottom six but that’s my opinion

mikeheyev is more effective than johnsson and kap and makes half of what they are making, if people decided agaisnt eating bats, we are not having this conversation becasue the cap goes up and there is more cap room

he's adapted his game for years now. He's a big slow guy, but he's adept at using his size. Especially at wing, playing two elite youngsters he won't have nearly as much defensive responsibility as he did at centre

I think mikheyev should on the second line and Hyman top line, and with no covid and saving a bit on those rfa deal you could have signed some very good grinding players, penalty killers to fill out the third fourth lines

He could prove me wrong, just going by my gut by roster look, just not loving the depth make up

Signing Tavares was a huge mistake

I'm genuinely curious, are you actually a Leafs fan? Or do you have way too much time on your hands to be trolling this much.

Honestly I don’t think he’s a troll I just think he doesn’t like nylanders game/Tavares signing. Now the guys saying vesey is better than Tavares is trying to get a reaction lol

Doesn't seem to like anything about them. Just keeps recycling the same garbage over and over again.

Signing Tavares was setting the standard's for what the contract's are. If the Leafs did not sign Tavares, then there wouldn't be any overpayment's for the restricted free agent's.

There has been the standard of UFA’s on the open market getting paid a higher premium than RFAs coming off their entry. I don’t think Tavares disrupted that.

Wouldn’t be the first overly critical fan of a team I’ve seen, buddy of mine has a guy who just rips every player on the oilers if they don’t play a perfect game.

I blame dubas feeling pressure after the nylander fiasco

I think it is time people let that go. It was his first stint negotiating contracts in the NHL(edit: as GM, I imagine he was apart of the process with Lou there). The boys took him for a little extra, oh well, move on.

out of every player in the 18-19 playoffs, ryan o'rielly (the conn smythe winner) was 278th out 288 in hits/60. hitting doesn't mean ****, good defence, working hard and scoring more goals than your opponent does.

tavares is the hardest working leaf by a mile, he puts up timely goals and is tasked every year with playing top shutdown minutes. He's invaluable and you look silly trading him for a guy who's worse just bc he hits more lol

I disagree.Dobois is younger, almost as good at D, plays for arguably a worse team, hits more, and is still definitely improving, while Tavares is kind of aging.

Maybe I over exaggerated a bit, but if he is an NHLer, he shouldn't be playing in the top 6. He is not good at all
