It fills no needs for the Jets so they say no.

Necas fills a need and so does Fleury or Bean

Necas is a wing downgrade and Fleury and Bean are bottom pairing LD's , so not needed.

Canes really should have some money going Jets way...it's gonna be a total pain in the a$$ with dealing the money issues after re-signing Svech, Hamilton and Laine.

Take VGK and TB of this year for examples.

Bean and Fleury are 2nd pairing and Necas has 1st line potential

We’ve stopped listening to windjammer when it comes to Laine trades. You could post a McDavid for Laine trade and he’s say WPG declined because McDavid makes too much.

Carolina gets the best player in the deal. Yes Necas has 1st line potential but laine is already a 50 goal threat. Fleury or Bean doesn’t offset that difference between Laine and Necas. Laine to CAR has to be for Necas and Pesce or else it’s a no go. If it was as simple as this trade it would’ve been done already, but Jets know their price and won’t budge and I don’t blame them.

A contending team doesn’t trade 2 roster players for one. Roster player + prospect + pick. So choose one of Necas or Pesce, then choose one of Bean or Suzuki and then a 1st

Jets are contending as well, they don’t want futures. They know their price, albeit probably a bit too high. I don’t think Laine for Necas and Pesce is unfair, but Jets could add Niku or Roslovic to even it out. I just don’t think CAR and WPG are good trade partners for laine. Jets aren’t going to settle for a ‘meh’ trade, they’re going to get exactly what they want or laine will be in Winnipeg long term. I get you’re considering Carolinas needs by saying they shouldn’t be trading 2 players for one. But think about the Jets, they are contending as well, trading a 50 goal threat for a borderline 2nd pairing dman and a downgrade on the wing and a late first makes 0 sense.

Pesce + Suzuki + Dzingel and a 1st is a good deal tho. Pesce improves the defence. Dzingel replaces a bit of the offence lost. Suzuki fits in the long term plans on the 2nd line and the 1st can be flipped for another player

Carolinas GM said he’s not moving Pesce so the deal is essentially a non starter. Jets don’t need more LD, they need a really solid RD to play with Morrissey.

There’s a limited amount of those guys in the league so I’m not sure anyone is moving a coveted RHD for Laine. Like maybe you get Brayden Schneider or Nils Lundqvist type of prospect but you won’t get an Adam Fox in return for him

This is a deal I would be ok with the canes doing. I’m pretty against trading necas but at the end of the day laine is the better player

Bean and Fleury's stats say otherwise as both are bottom pairing guys and both LD which Winnipeg doesn't need. Necas has a long way to go to be considered a first line player. So, your trade amounts to a severe winger downgrade and two bottom pair guys that aren't needed for a guaranteed first line winger that is only 22. How can you possibly think that is fair?

Exactly right. The trade isn't good for Carolina because they shouldn't be trading two decent roster players. But Winnipeg should go ahead and throw away the most valuable player in the deal by far for a good young player and two meh guys that serve no purpose.

If Necas hits his peak and Laine stays exactly the same, the Jets still lose the deal in a landslide. I know some people here live to bash Laine, but the silliness of player values they have is ridiculous.

Yes I agree, he was only viewing the trade from CAR side. It would have to be a hockey trade, no futures, no prospects that are 2-3 years away. So, unless Carolina is willing to give up necas and Pesce, the trade is a nonstarter. There’s a better chance laine is moved for PLD one for one than a trade like this.

Agreed. He lays his trades out like an NHL20 trade. "I want an 85 value player, so if I give them a 50 and two 30's, the value is more than enough". No consideration for the opposing team's needs at all. Not to mention that teams don't trade young, star, first line players to fill out their bottom pair defense, or picks that won't help them for 3 years or now more.

Yeah no for sure, I also see their side in that it’s likely a bad trade for them too as it creates a hole on D, but if Fleury and Bean are 2nd pairing guys I guess it shouldn’t matter right? I don’t think CAR and WPG are good trade partners.

I agree again. For Carolina I can understand that it is hard to give up that much roster depth. For Winnipeg, if this is the best deal out there right now, then I think the Jets are just better off keeping Laine for now, see how the season goes and look into a trade next year or the year after if need be.

Yeah I agree, I posted a thread with what I think should happen. I don’t think they should be trading laine, get him locked up.
