Description

To me, I think the Canes will lean on a 21-man roster for cap savings, with Geekie/McGinn as the 21st man. By the time the Canes hit the trade deadline, this gives them enough room for another busy deadline to further improve the team. The taxi squad, to me, will be Bean/Ned/Lorentz and a bunch of AHL vets. By the time that Chicago's season starts, they may move Geekie to the taxi squad, drop Lorentz down to Chicago for playing time, and run 20 men.

The D core that ya'll have makes me jealous, and also if someone gets injured, I can see Jake Bean breaking out and having one helluva season.

Especially since Gardiner looked way better in the 2nd half and Skjei became a different player in the playoffs, I'm quite excited myself.

Agreed, I'm not a huge Canes fan, but as a Dman myself I love watching this team because the D is just stacked.

I don't know about that. Are teams willing to take a 1-way deal for a goalie, a la DeSmith last year?

Yes. He's still young, having had a good NHL stint. Someone will claim him.

It may well be Ned, then, on the 21-man roster. Geekie and Bean are still waiver-exempt.

Geekie will be on the roster, he's too good not to be. I would expect Ryan to be on the roster too an use a 23 man line-up giving the compact schedule. I'll make a team and @ you to show you what I mean

They will have around 4 mil at the deadline, and if they move someone like Skjei at that point, they'll be able to be incredibly active.

With Dzingel/Marty/Foegele/McGinn/Mrazek/Reimer being expiring deals, IMO those are the guys that are candidates to be dealt to free up cap and roster room for new pieces.
