Brett Ritchie, Michael Stone, and Garret Sparks are all on PTOs. As for PLD, I would like him and think Monahan could maybe use a shakeup, I just don’t think the difference between them is worth a 1st. Monahan has 3 years of team control left vs. PLD’s 4 years, but consistently outproduces PLD’s career highs offensively (and PLD doesn’t play PK or anything). Honestly consider them pretty even.

PLD is a hell of a player, but Mohanan AND A 1st?! CBJ takes that and runs.

What would you change it to? 1:1?

Monahan and a 3rd? Monahan is only 1 year removed from a more than 1PPG average... PLD is younger and *possibly* has a higher ceiling, but not now at that clip...

I would love PLD but that seems more like a TDL or next offseason move. The difference between the 2 players is pretty small and not worth a 1st. I would rather wait 2 years and go all in on Barkov instead tbh.

IMO it makes way more sense to try and acquire him to center the Tkachuk line and keep Monahan to center the Gaudreau line, obviously that depends entirely on CBJ's performance this year.

I’ll agree that I’d prefer Barkov (and it seems like he could want out if Bobrovsky doesn’t bounce back) but we might lose Gaudreau by then (or he’ll be exiting his prime if we re-sign him). I’ll elaborate later, but I think our best window is now, so we might not be able to afford to wait 2 years.

I think PLD would be excellent on a line with Tkachuk though. If it costs Monahan, it’s pretty close to a straight up swap but maybe some new blood would help out a top 6 that’s honestly looked pretty complacent the last couple years. Tkachuk-PLD-Mangiapane and Gaudreau-Lindholm-Dube would be a pretty sick top 6, and it’s younger overall than you might expect (I for one generally think of Calgary as middle aged for NHL forwards, but this and the development of Dube/Mangiapane, plus pushing Backlund out of the top 6 makes our top 6 younger, more in line with the prime years of Valimaki/Andersson/Hanifin). I agree this is more of a deadline move, Monahan should be given a shot to see if he can rekindle his 2018-19 chemistry with Gaudreau, but I think our best window to win is the next 3 years (Dube/Valimaki will be cheap on bridges, Hanifin/Lindholm have fabulous contracts, Gaudreau/Monahan won’t need a raise, Giordano/Tanev/Markstrom will still be effective) so we should go for it now. Treliving’s never been afraid of big trades, and if Monahan starts average or cold (and PLD doesn’t explode out of the gate), and Kekalainen strikes out on Laine, I could see GMBT pursuing PLD. After the next couple years it will take some good drafting now and next year (I really liked our first 3 picks this year, particularly Zary and Poirier) and some cap finagling later but that’s fine.
