Couldn't they have just signed an AHL level goalie to that same deal instead of an ECHL level goalie?

If he's indeed the TS goalie and Merzlikins/Korpisalo are injured at some point, they're in trouble. Kivlenieks is more likely to be the 3G and this guy the AHL backup.

Check out those ECHL stats this season. He definitely earned the opportunity. Given what Binnington did at age 26, it's not impossible that this dude becomes a #1 NHL at some point. I mean, it's 1/100 but possible.

Decent AHL Goalies are gonna be in high demand this season. I guess Jarmo is playing the long game.
