Of course nylander is better. Doesn't mean you get to slander olofsson

He is a fine player, but this trade does not help TO now.

And it puts buffalo over the cap and costs us a stud 21 year old RHD and an inexpensive goal scorer.

You are talking about 3-4 years down the road when we are ready to win now. Losing Nylander to patch holes 4 years from now doesn't help us now when we could be at our best.

the trade makes our defense better and also solidifies it for the future while also allowing you to have more space in the salary cap and with the production of the players added you'll lose only like 0.4 goals per game likely less so your argument keep good player because he's good doesn't make much sense when you take more than a surface-level look at the trade

Nylander is a 60 point player. Becoming a 90 point player is a 50% increase (30 more points = 50% of 60 points)

Was on pace for 72 points at age 23 and he's only a 60 point player. The usual BS in regards to Nylander. Olofson is probably going to he a future 40 goal scorer but Nylander is going to be a 60 point winger forever because no reason at all. This is why there is no rational debate.

It does not make our defence better. I don't even know where Joki would play? He isn't a defensive defenceman, so he won't take Holl's spot on the shutdown pair, he is definitely better than Bogosian but he was brought in for PK duties and to add some beef which has forced Dermott back and Joki is not taking Brodie's spot.

so your thinking is because a defenceman is also good at offence he can't play defence? I'm going, to be honest, that's kind of a dumb way of looking at it

No I think a young player who is way more offensive than defensive right now isn't what the team needs right now. Jokiharju isn't necessary on TO. He most closely resembles what Rielly is but is half of that at his stage and worse defensively. We don't need Jokiharju right now, maybe down the line he would look great by but then we will also have Sandin and Liljegren, along with Rielly and whoever else comes up in either FA, trades, or prospects. So moving Nylander for a guy we don't need and a very big drop offensively is just a bad idea.

The Leafs are getting bent over in this deal and the cap doesn't work for Buffalo regardless.

All things aside, an Olofsson and Jokiharju for Nylander trade is probably close to fair in value now. However, since Joki is going to get better and better and we expect him to be our #1 RHD, there is no way we move him. This trade make us more potent offensively but severely hurts our D-core moving forward so it's not worth it. Also, Olofsson is an effective top 6 winger and I'm not convinced Nylander is enough of an upgrade to warrant the price
