I don't think it would be best for Juulsen's career to be scratched. If Chicago isn't going to play him then they shouldn't claim him.

You’re being very generous it would be the absolutely abysmal thing to happen to his career

They could play him over Holl, or rotate him and Mitchell. Idk if any nhl roster has room for him in the top 6 tho

I must say when the title said waiver claims and it was a Blackhawks team with Toronto showing up in the deals...I expected it to be a Dell waiver claim. For a Murphy trade, the time has come and gone for that with Toronto. Holl had a great season last year in his first NHL season and will get every opportunity to follow it up. Trading a 1st and Holl+ for Murphy simply doesn't have the value needed anymore for the Leafs.

That's why I think it's best for him to clear waivers (my bias). He's not going to become a full time NHLer if he can't play a lot of games.

While that’s prob true I think he gets claimed tbh. Is there room for him in Detroit? J thought of that, that could be a good spot for him

You're not getting a first for Murphy. The leafs have no interest in that trade. I would counter with Dermott and a pick but the leafs don't have the cap space

I'm sure there's room on many teams, but I don't think he should be playing in the NHL right now after missing nearly 2 years of hockey.

Though I’d love to see him splitting time with Foote as Tampa Bays 3rd spot his best situation would be playing every day in the AHL

Makes no sense for the Leafs. Taking on 1.8m in cap and a year less term than the very competent Holl. And the Hawks get a prospect and first? No team would offer nearly so much but somehow the Leafs trades have this RHD fascination.

He's perfectly capable; had a good year last season. If he can follow it up, the difference between him and Murphy isn't significant, certainly not a 1st.

Murphy is reliable top 4 d on a good contract. He ain’t going anywhere anytime soon. Hawks plan is to stay mediocre and sell overpriced tickets

Juulsen is a good pickup for any team but not for the hawks. We have a lot of young D coming up dont want another in the mix. Not a knock on juulsen. Ho sang would be interesting pickup for the hawks considering the injuries its worth a shot at least. The value on murphy is all over the place chi fans view him as a solid top 4 defensive dman capable of playing top line minutes while most leafs fans think murphy is the same as holl (lol). Valuewise i think its fair but others would disagree not that the hawks should or would do it. Good post.

I agree with you that I dont think the difference between him and Holl is not a first, but I think value-wise he could probably fetch a first from the right team

I'm sure he could. 2nd pair right handed D with some size and a solid reputation. Might take retention due to the flat cap, but I'd bet there are teams out there that would certainly consider it.

I doubt any rational fan is going to say Holl and Murphy are the same player, however, to think he's worth giving up assets and more cap space to fill the exact role Holl is succeeding in is silly. Why give up assets for a marginal improvement?

It's not that Holl and Murphy are the same type of player. But they're worth the same. Holl is better offensively and Murphy is better defensively. Both are #4-5 d-man. But Holl cost less in terms of his contract, and doesn't cost any assets to get. & the difference between the two players is certainly not a top goalie prospect and a 1st. That's a laughable offer.

Leafs don't need Murphy either. They're right side is set with depth. Brodie, Holl, Bogosian, Dermott, Lehtonen, Marincin, Liljegren, Hollowell, Kokkenen, Rasanen, and Duszak are all the options at RD right now. Murphy would be fighting for 3rd pair minutes in Toronto with Bogosian and they both play a similar style of game. Why trade for someone when you just got the same type of player for free?

Hawks fans need to get off the "Murphy to Toronto" train, especially for anything involving a 1st. Just gets a laugh from Leafs management.

He'd be competing with Connor Carrick and Matt Tennyson for time at #3 RD on the Devils. But that might not be helping his career, either.

Actually the devils might be the best spot for him. Carrick and Tennyson can’t be that hard to beat out, right?
