I know that the backlash against Hockey Twitter is a thing, and I know that our pool doesn't have elite prospects outside of Jarvis, however, there are at least 15 guys on here that have a very good chance to be effective NHL role players, which no other pool can boast outside of Los Angeles. On top of that, you have maybe 5-10 more guys on top that are pure boom-or-bust and are not likely to be NHL players, but if they are, could be impact guys. To me, I see Carolina as being anywhere from the #3-to-#8 prospect pool in the league, depending on what you're looking for in a farm. It's certainly the best prospect pool of any contending club in hockey, which says a LOT.

I would also keep Geekie as a prospect, for now, just because he's only played 2 regular-season games in the NHL.

I wouldn't say Garbage as some have but it's easy to compare your prospects to eachother internally and rank them. But where your prospect pool starts to fall off is when you compare them to others around the league. For instance Ottawa has a very very good prospect pool as does Montreal and Vancouver and Colorado and Detroit. Compared to them Carolina's is lacking. On the flip side you look at a team like Arizona, Anaheim and Nashville and Carolina's starts to look like a top 5 pool.

Eliteprospects ranked Carolina's prospect pool 4th in the NHL. NHL network didn't have them in the top 15.

Yeah I saw that, I think too much is read into the prospect pool anyway. IMO it's great to have young guys who may turn into this player or that player but in the infamous words of Cary Price, that doesn't mean sh** until they prove they belong in the NHL and can help the team to the playoffs and beyond.

The issue with Ottawa's prospect pool, at least IMHO, is that it really tails off after around the #11 spot. There are a lot of high end guys but not a lot of for-sure NHL role guys.

I think you're arguing with nobody? Everyone knows the Canes have a great prospect pool. They've absolutely murdered the draft the last few years. They get more value from rounds 3-7 than any other team. Nikishin, Nybeck, Pashin, Fensore, Puistola, Honka.

Ottawa's prospect pool is better, as is LA's probably Colorado's too... NYR if you count Lafreniere. but outside of that? Pashin looks like a mammoth of a player right now, Gunler was a projected 1st rounder, Suzuki is still Suzuki, Jarvis is Seth Jarvis, Jamieson Rees may still have a claim as the organisations best forward prospect, Fensore Keane Bean Honka look like stud blueliners, Makiniemi and Lafontaine look better with each passing day. It's tough to justify anyone else above Carolina. On par with? That's very different. But to say it isn't a top 15 prospect pool is utterly ridiculous.

My apologies I just needed to rant ❤❤

It's not bold in saying that he likely won't come over in the foreseeable future. But he does have a strong sense of loyalty to Ufa. I'd imagine when he gets bored of terrorising Russia, the idea of playing in the best league in the world will draw him over. Similar to Gusev in that sense.

Colorado's pool isn't very deep. The only truly elite-potential guy in their farm is Byram, and the pool tails off precipitously after their top 6 of Byram/Newhook/Timmins/Annunen/Bowers/Kaut. The only pools that I think are truly better are in LA (bad team), New York (former bad team), Detroit (very bad team), Montreal, and maybe Ottawa if you prioritize stars instead of depth.

Carolina's one of the select few outside of LA and Detroit, two very bad teams that NEED prospects, that can boast both quality and quantity. That's why I have them above Colorado. To me, at least, Carolina and Ottawa have near-equal quality prospect pools.

Except Colorado bolster a larger quantity of quality. Does that not make their pool better?

No, I don't. To me, it's a lot more impressive to have Jarvis (a potential superstar), Geekie, Gunler, and Drury as IMO for-sure NHL top-9 forwards, and then a gigantic bubble of players between 5-20 that have a good shot at making the NHL and having impact as role guys, than having 6 very good prospects and little else outside of that. At the very least, Carolina's going to have some utterly absurd AHL squads very shortly.

That's a really underwhelming prospect pool. Outside of Jarvis, who isn't a sure bet at all, it's a few middle 6 guys, and a bunch of long shots. Frankly it's more embarrassing that EP ranked them 4th than it is that NHL network ranked them outside the top 15.

Sure, once you can thoughtfully explain why this group of prospects is one of the top 5 best in the league.

probably borderline there but yeah your 2020 draft was great, but doesn't fix the pool totally. Draft the same way next year and I agree.
