He's half the player, or less. The only place he's Ryan's equal is on the PK. Follow the links posted and have a peek at Ryan's numbers.

Definitely would be a good pickup, he is better than Haas as well.

I'd pass. Can't be paying your 4C over $3M. Just can't have that.

im hoping McLeod can steal a spot this year. If not, hopefully Haas returns quickly. JJ has regressed ever year for the last 3 seasons. Im happy he was sent down

Like the player, hate the contract. Having said that, having Derek Ryan would give us the deepest C-depth in the league and it wouldn't be close.

Your d-pairs are way out of whack. Playfair has had Nurse-Bear and Jones-Larsson playing together exclusively all throughout training camp.

Similarly, Tippett has mentioned there are pairings for the forwards who will stay together until he's forced to split them up. Connor-RNH, Draisaitl-Yamamoto, Turris-JP is who he's put together.

I didn't bother to set up the lines / pairings, just moved LW to LW etc. CapFriendly has it all screwed up (Yamamoto is listed as AHL, for instance).

Edit: fixed.

Pretty sure they can. In fact, that's why I made this AGM - to see if it was possible.

Ryan is 100% better than Haas and he's a sure thing compared with McLeod. IMO McLeod grabbing a spot with both hands is the only reason not to claim Ryan.

Devin Shore isn't a bad player, 30 points in a season before and a penalty killer. Mcleod will be on the taxi squad for sure there are not consequences to having him there he's waiver exempt.

I'm not arguing whether its financially feasible. Im saying its not a smart way to spend $3M. Paying your 4C that much as opposed to the minimum that Shore, Haas, and McLeod doesn't make sense. Yes, he'd probably be a slight upgrade over those guys, but paying him that can be a huge obstacle in making a trade at the deadline.

Also why did Calgary cut him? Maybe he had a poor offseason and If he's not good enough to make them, why would we want him? Obviously he's regressed in Calgary.

Ultimately I don't think his potentially marginal increase in defensive capabilities over a guy like Shore is worth how his contract could impact improving the team down the line.

Also a very minor addition, but I wouldn't want to help Calgary clear cap space or take a problem off their hands if it doesn't have a clear benefit.
