Potential Opening Night Lineup to Maximize ACSL

Created by: The_Rocket

Description
Since the league has modified the LTIR rules for this year and putting Ferland on LTIR before game 1 would be considered to have happened on Tuesday the 12th, this is how I imagine them lining up for Wednesday against Edmonton.

Then, on Thursday, Ferland is assigned to LTIR, Hamonic is signed, Jasek is demoted, and beagle is recalled to the main roster

This maximizes the ACSL for the season as the Canucks would then be operating under a $81,460,211 salary cap for the season, plus Ferland’s LTIR relief pool of $3,500,000

That’s assuming that Hamonic doesn’t make more than $1 million.

Are you allowed to send someone down to the AHL for opening night and then recall them to the main roster the next day? Or are you only allowed to recall players for the taxi squad?

It's gonna be in between 800k-1.2mil they've said so it's a real possibility.

Yeah if he is going to sign for 1.075 million or less than that is the way to go.

I saw Ben Kuzma day 1 yr 2 million, but I don’t know how much faith I put in his reporting

Yeah you can immediately call up a player the next day. You can “assign” a player to the AHL with out them actually going all the way to the team. Often you see this happen on the same day with waiver exempt players, but since they modified the LTIR rules a bit this year, I believe it means they can’t put ferland on LTIR until Thursday but they have to be cap compliant by Wednesday, so opening night will look at but different than the rest of the season

Yeah what you said about being cap compliant is true. I wasn't sure if for this year you weren't allowed to call up players straight from the AHL. If you can, then the player probably has to go through some quarantine procedure, otherwise the taxi squad is useless. Even if it's just an on paper formality, anyone we send down the AHL to be cap compliant on opening day probably won't be able to join the team until they go through another quarantine or something. Otherwise there's not much benefit to having a taxi squad separate from the AHL.

I'm not sure what's actually happening, but it will be complicated. Hawlryuk potentially being injured is another wrinkle.
