Why would a guy in debt be terminating a contract worth 7 mill a year?

Seems dumb. Why wouldn't they want him playing that out and making 7mil a year lol? Lets him earn the money back quicker. He's not gonna find another job that pays that well, and then they'd never actually get any of their money back.

He won't opt out of the season. We've known of his gambling issues for a couple years now but this is a staggering amount of money. He needs to buckle down this year, focus on hockey then after the season get his life back on track.

Maybe. Im not a lawyer or anything but there might be bankruptcy loopholes if he has no income this year.

Unpopular opinion but certain enablers that are no longer with the org might be good for him that they are gone...I know he and a certain Leaf went gambling together often in Vegas.

The thing is....he's been a bad teammate on every team he's been on and that list includes the KHL!!! If he got into problems...it's not everyone else, its on him and him alone. Be happy if he walks on the contract.

That's the opinion of someone who clearly knows little about the situation. Kane has been an exceptional teammate on and off the ice in SJ, his problems almost always are away from the game. Thanks for your valued input though.
