Hey all! So long time Hockey Fan, that honestly has lost my way the last 5 years or so. Now that my Hometown is getting a squad in October, i want to really dive back in. I spent hours on this, but i know that doesn't really respect all that goes into these players and their games. This site is so awesome to give us the opportunity to do this. Please, if you geek out on personnel, please let me know how you feel i did, and how you feel this team would perform. Thanks!

Welcome to CapFriendly! Sometimes, it's not so friendly. You have to learn to ignore nasty comments. Here's a tip: I've found that the more vicious the comment, the more ignorant the poster. One thing you should know is that each fanbase (with perhaps the exception I mention below) consists of about 50% reasonable and informed fans and 50% yahoos. The trick is learning who is who.

I think you have to consider that some teams will protect 8 skaters in order to shelter 4 defensemen, Colorado and Nashville (as you've predicted) in particular. I don't think that the Avalanche will feel a need to protect Landeskog, in which case they would protect Devon Toews. (I don't think that Joe Sakic spent two second-round draft picks for one year of Toews.) If they decide to go 7-3-1 as you have here, Toews would be a better selection (in my opinion) than Compher.

Similarly, I think the Kings may well decide to protect their 3 young eligible defenders (Clague, Roy and Walker) plus the required NMC Doughty. The four forwards would be Kopitar, Kempe, Iafallo and Andersson unless the latter disappoints. We wouldn't mind losing any of the other young forwards or Maata or MacDermid.

I'd be willing to bet Minnesota protects Parise (NMC), Zuccarello (NMC), Fiala, Eriksson Ek, Dumba, Brodin, Spurgeon and Suter (NMC) unless Dumba gets traded. Speaking of the Wild, you'll discover that their particular adherents (@Tansor, @MNBassman , @JayTea and others) are the most courteous and team-knowledgeable of CapFriendly posters.

With respect to goalies, take a look at Jake Allen (Montreal), Braden Holtby (Vancouver) and Anton Khudobin (Dallas). I think that your new team will be looking to get some veterans for the net. I also think that Toronto is unlikely to re-sign Andersen, at least before the expansion draft, so the Maple Leafs will protect Campbell.

Good luck and have fun! I certainly do.

Thanks OldNYIFan! My first pass, now that i have looked harder at it, and been roundly ripped apart in some Kraken groups, was pretty rushed. I am going to spend a few hours (maybe more) going more in depth on my next pass. What i want to do is on pass 2 or 3, hold tight and see how i align with the team in July. I fully understand that CapFriendly is doing their best to show who will most likely be available to them. Holtby is going to be my Goalie 1 though for sure, i was ripped for not taking him haha. I also will NOT take Subban, or maybe not even Tyler Johnson.

My bet is that Seattle takes Greenway, but I could also see them taking Soucy (to stack up on D with the intent to flip some for more assets like Vegas did) or even Foligno now that he's extended without any trade protection clauses per Michael Russo.

For what it's worth (probably very little), here's my initial thinking:

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2134099

You'll note that this was a couple of weeks prior to Waiver Week.

Note how bad my left side is, despite the fact that lefties predominate in the League. And I don't think Detroit will expose Greiss.

@OldNYIfan nailed our projected protection list. It is interesting that Foligno was just extended this evening with no NMC. Wonder how that will affect expansion and/or if Guerin has a trade up his sleeves (please save us PLD)...

As for the expansion I'm afraid Seattle may not have the same success that Vegas did initially. Teams were panicking that their good players would be exposed and instead of just losing a good player they moved tons of picks/prospects to get Vegas to select guys that ended up becoming really good selections (and a lot of the guys they took with those picks in the entry drafts look great in hindsight). I hope I'm wrong, I have family in Seattle and have always loved visiting (and I know my family will be Kraken fans). Should be a great hockey town.

TanSor,
I am so damn excited. Me and 3 buddies went in on 2 season tickets, and we have fantastic seats. So excited. I have tons of family in Vancouver, BC, and have been a hockey fan for pretty much my whole life. I have just not paid that much attention the last 4-5 years, so i am cramming in this shortened season to get acclimated again. I will be watching a TON of hockey from now until the expansion draft. I do agree with you, i think we will not get as many good players as Vegas got, but i hope they can flip guys for picks and just build up. I am ok being terrible for a few years haha. Checkout my second go at a draft, this one was garbage haha.
