Don't think so. Wedgewood is our backup and Comrie is our taxi squad goalie

Agreed. Tennyson will ultimately be on Taxi Squad, I think, but maybe they're just giving him a look to see what he can do? Maybe he's looked good in camp? I have no idea. I would have figured that they'd keep Smith and Severson together. Maybe that will be the case once Vatanen arrives, making the second pair Smith-Severson and the third pair Kulikov-Vatanen.

Sharangovich has been such a pleasant surprise and the star of camp. Love just taking a shot and putting him on the top line. Maybe he's the spark that Hughes needs. Really, what do we have to lose?

NJ need to place Comrie on waivers again and if he clears, he can be on the taxi squad. Right now, they have Blackwood, Wedgewood and Comrie on the active roster.

No, cuz Comrie was going to be ours(why we waived him)...Basically NJD will be having three goalies on their 23 man roster.

Tasking Hughes with the 1C job is brutal. He has proven to be no better than the third line. Matching up against the centres in that division like Crosby, Bergeron, Eichel, Barzal, Zibanejad, Coots, Malkin, Kuzy, and Backstrom will be too tall of an order and will hinder his development. If he wasn't a #1 pick he'd have been in the AHL last season, just saying. Though I do think he'll be elite one day.

Agree with @Jetman because if we waive Comrie then Winnipeg or any other team could just pick him up. But im not sure how it would work in this situation. I think Comrie could be the backup but it seems like the coaches really like Wedgewood

We have to give Hughes the 1C spot since no one else on the roster is good enough for that role. Hughes also added 14 POUNDS of muscle this offseason. which would help him against these elite centers. i think Hughes could be great 2C this season with the right linemates

But he isn't good enough for it either yet. I would put Zajac there or even Zacha before risking hurting Hughes' development in the slightest.

Not Zajac, hes too old and not good anymore. Zacha is a decent option but Hughes played really well in camp on the first line. I rather have Hughes play with good linemates in the top 6 rather than 3rd line.

Would he have been in the AHL though? If you get someone with potential and skill who isn't hurting cap and scored 30 you don't send them to the AHL. Unless you say oh he's underperforming for a 1dt rounder let's let our expectations of a player twist our view and say he's bad. He wasn't good but not bad though to send down

if he was a 2nd round pick 18 year old with his production for example he would have been playing elsewhere is all I'm saying. I kind of think it would have been more beneficial for him to play ~8 NHL games and then have a year to try and dominate the AHL before coming up with more experience and more confidence, and more weight.
