Awesome, then the Blue Jackets should have no problem accepting the offer.

VAN declines. Benn walks. Edler re-signs for a lot less. Rasmus contract is too rich, considering they have to resign Petey, Hughes and Demko.

Chicago doesnt go after players with bigger cap hits than money owed, Ottawa loves doing that.

Ottawa won't go after a cap dump longer than this next season, Okposo goes two years after that. If you don't like Chicago, find someone else. Last seasons Ottawa Senators are not next seasons Ottawa Senators. There's no room for Okposo.

Not saying I don't like what Ottawa is doing, its just I don't think it would shock anyone if a trade with Ottawa goes down with something similar to this.

I understand why you think that, but that was 1-2 years ago. A commitment of $6MM cap for three years is too long, for Okposo’s current production abilities. I’ve been trying to get Habs fans to understand this because they keep trying to trade Byron to Ottawa. I know this is just speculation, but I would think people would want there to be a reasonable chance to make sense, talking about Habs fans. Ottawa could take on a one year contract fairly easily, but two years would be much more difficult because they’ll need their cap next season. Three years cuts into their cap when they really need it.

Okay, the Sens would trade for cap years using this guide

    One year in 20/21
    Zero years in 21/22
    Zero years in 22/23

Also the caps just did it with Stepan, so it was months ago, not years.

I’m a bit confused by your comment, but I think you just accidentally put Caps instead of Sens, and Stepan instead of Watson, but I’m not positive.

The Sens picked up Stepan from ARI, in the current 20/21 season, with one year left on his contract.
The Sens signed Dadonov, a UFA from FLA, but he’s not in major decline like Okposo.
The Sens traded for Watson from NSH, but that’s a $1.5MM contract, not $6MM, and Watson fills a $1.5MM role, so not a cap dump, they paid for him with a 4th.

my bad, i did put caps instead of sens. But the sens just traded for Stepan, 6.5 hit, 5 mil real cash, of which the sens only paid 2 mil, since bonus was already paid. So like I said, sens love those contracts.

Agreed, but it’s just one year, Okposo is three years, that’s the difference. The Sens will need that $6MM for a player that plays like a $6MM player.

If Ottawa was just starting their rebuild, this would be a good trade, but not for a team finishing their rebuild. Find a team that’s just starting their rebuild.
