The literally got an asset for a guy they could have lost for free on waivers yesterday. Lajoie is an AHL Dman.

Lajoie had a really crazy start to the 18-19 season, but after about game 7 of that season it quickly became clear he was not an everyday NHL player. It was awesome while it lasted, but he had already lost his role in Belleville to Jonathan Aspirot last year; Lajoie was playing as the 7th D when they played 11/7 at the end of the year.

I don't know much about Bishop, but the Sens got a warm body for a guy who they could have lost for nothing on waivers.

Clear Hurricanes win, Lajoie has potential, Bishop is a career fringe depth forward

Lajoie still could crack top 6 D if he gets good development from now on, which I unfortunately don't think will happen on the D stacked roster of Carolina.

Both of them cleared waivers. I don’t see what the fuss is all about.

I like this trade for both teams, but I think Carolina is the slight but clear winner. Lajoie's a good pickup for the taxi squad if Forsling makes it on the Panthers' main roster and still has some potential as a bottom-pairing guy. Always thought that Bishop was the kind of guy that could make the NHL as a 4C on a bad team, AKA. Ottawa's current situation, so I'm happy for him that he gets his first legitimate NHL opportunity, but still, I think Lajoie is more likely to be a consistent NHL presence out of the two.

In our taxi squad, we actually do lol, as least if Forsling makes the Panthers.

For the laughs, here's our current NHL/AHL defensive depth chart on our left side:

Jaccob Slavin
Brady Skjei
Jake Gardiner
Haydn Fleury
Jake Bean
Joakim Ryan
Max Lajoie

Fleury and Bean can both play their off-hand quite well, especially Fleury, but still, it's a lot of lefties. Forsling may come back, as well, pending what Florida does.

Actually our minor league depth is really thin,

Top 6 guys in GP in the AHL last year were Mckeown, Bean, Kaski, Cleason, Priski and Forsling

If Bean stays in the NHL this year that is literally 5 of our top 6 GP guys gone since the TDL

Bean was recently taxi squaded and is likely bound for Chicago once the season starts. You also have to account for the shared affiliation with the Preds. Davies and Carrier likely help with the depth behind Keane on the right side. And McKeown plans to return to the AHL by February.

Knowing Carolina, every GM in the NHL owes the Canes FO a favor

OTT has spent the last 2+ years accumulating young, talented players. And then they go and trade away one of their better D prospects for an older, career minor leaguer. Can someone who voted for OTT please justify this trade?

I mean our AHL forward depth took a significant hit this year (Balcers to SJS on waivers, Batherson and at least one, if not both of Norris/L. Brown graduating, probably a couple guys like Beaudin/Shaw/Chlapik on the taxi squad) so acquiring another warm body up front for the baby Sens in exchange for like, our 10th best current D (6th best left shot after Chabot/Brannstrom/Wolanin/Reilly/Coburn) and a guy who will likely be quickly passed on the left side by Sanderson/Kleven, and debatably not even better than Aspirot or Alsing? Labrie was also signed to an AHL deal. I liked Lajoie's start to 18-19 but it IS starting to seem like he's more of a one and done unfortunately. I'd rather have a little bit of forward depth for the baby Sens than a 7D for them. Lajoie maybe has slightly more upside, but it's likely moot, would be a surprise if either guy is more than an AHLer ever, both will be AHLers only barring major injury issues this season at least. Worst case scenario Ottawa claims him back on waivers in a year lol?

This doesn't make sense Bishop is making more than Lajoie. Dorion must have miscalculated... Melnyk isn't gonna be happy
