Can you go be bored with another team? Buffalo gives up 3 major young assets for the right to what, pay laine 9 million a year while having to pay Dahlin while also already paying eichel and skinner?

No thank you.

Nope. Buffalo is not safe from my boredom.

And "major young assets" is a bit of a stretch, considering Laine's 3 years younger than Olofsson for instance, and only a year older than Jokiharju. I won't even count Mittelstadt as a major young asset.

As a Sabres fan, i decline this for the same reason i decline the Pat Kane trade scenarios.
Laine doesn’t put us over the top by any means even though he’s a damn good goal scorer
Maybe if we lose Hall, but that’s still a lot you’re having us give up for him, and we just gave up a plethora of pieces to fill the holes we have

To be fair the only hole this trade creates on your roster is the one Jokiharju makes, as Mittelstadt is unlikely to make the lineup and Laine fills the hole Olofsson leaves, and then some. Just think of a powerplay involving Eichel-Hall-Reinhart-Laine-Dahlin...

Not underestimating the fact that Jokiharju leaves a big hole, but I do think upgrading from Olofsson to Laine might be worth it, should Hall not re-sign with BUF long-term.

Which is why i said “maybe if we lose Hall”
But I’m assuming we try to keep Hall, which means there’s no way we can pay Laine too

And while Mitts hasn’t worked out yet, we’re still hopeful he can fulfill that promise he’s shown in the past- at least some of it

Jokiharju would be a big loss for us as well btw
Most Sabres fans see him as Dahlin’s long term partner

Tbf if the comparison is Risto, there's many better options in there.

Take out Mittelstadt and Nike and I'd say it's fair. If you put protection on the pick.

I don't think the value is too bad here, maybe a shade of an overpay in my opinions but certainly in the ballpark. Good work there.

But realistically, we probably will try to keep Hall around after the season. And in that case, we wouldn't really be in the market for Laine.

I think its a no-brainer if hall has a good year and agrees to stay.

Keeping hall.

If the choices are - extend hall or give up 3 promising pieces and a first rounder to trade for laine...

I was counting the 1st round pick, not mittelstadt
