Description

Without Toews, I view the islanders at a 4-5 placed team in this division. With Toews this team could be top 2 in the division. built for a long playoff run. Toews even with his defensive mistakes in his own zone, you can't deny his transition skills, speed and his ability to shoot the puck. Isles had a very good quaterback powerplay guy, Would rather kick old Leddy and pay a first for it. Toews was only 26. Dobson and Toews could of been a lethal defensive pair in the league making the Isles a top 5 , defensive squad in the entire league. Now isles are 10 -12 in the league. Damn.

Lou has made some bizarre moves, but the toews trade is on trotz. He literally chose Leddy over toews because Leddy has more experience.

I only view isles as a 3-4 place team IF they play wahlstrom and bellows. If they go with the same old useless grinders , they won’t finish higher than 5.

Not at all. I hope toews is regarded as a top 20 D by the end of the season. Maybe the isles owners will fire Lou and trotz.

Agreed. But I think if Trotz lets Wahlstrom play, it'll even out in the long term. Wahlstrom's deep stats during last years' call up were phenomenal. I could also see Dobson getting a "full" season to work with could make him the next 2nd pairing offensive defenseman. There's also a good chance that, down the road, either Wilde or Bolduc become what Toews could be.

In short, I agree it was a bad move, but a lot could happen that could keep them Cup Contenders.

Yes, losing Toews was bad and he was good but the Islanders have some defensive prospects. Bolduc, Wilde, Robin Salo (19pts in 21 games in Sweden), and Aho who all seem to be developing pretty well I think we will be fine. And to get some draft picks back even though they will probably be late 2nd rounders helped us recoup picks we gave up to get Greene and Pageau. At least that's how I think about it.
