Why the zegras issue? Never hurt a guy to develop a bit longer

Zegras and Drysdale is understandable since they're giving them one more dev year and not being on a sinking ship that could squeak into the playoffs because weak West but yeah why is Comtois not on the roster

Zegras and Drysdale don't surprise me. Comtois does. He seemed ready last year.

The thing I don't get is why don't they trade Gibson for assets if they're not going to compete now. They have kids in the pipe for that position in a few years.

Anaheim isn't competing, I don't see the rush to bring up Drysdale & Zegras. Comtois, on the other hand, is surprising to say the least.

Don't be too upset. When fans are back in the buildings you'll have Trevor Zegras in the lineup. Things could be worse!

Crazy how teams think they can be successful by having one foot in rebuild and other foot on keep vets around and bubble. Basically one foot on the gas and one on the brakes. Tough to bottom out though with how good Gibson is. Can you tell me any team that has had a quick retool on the fly? In theory I guess pit or chi. But damn tough to do

This was exactly what I was about to post. Comtois is a head scratcher but I'd rather have a GM that is patient with prospects and lets them develop properly rather than rush them to the NHL, especially when Anaheim likely isn't a contender and there isn't a reason to have them on the roster immediately.

I can see the argument about sending them to the AHL to develop, but I have no idea why they wouldn’t be kept on the roster at least until AHL training camps open.

ANA has tremendous prospects. They may not have as many as LAK per say, but ANA has studs. They'll be back in the mix in no time.

Comtois I understand being upset about, but Drysdale and Zegras are both guys who shouldn’t be rushed unless they’re 100% ready. It’s annoying but not THAT bad.

I understand rebuilding, it can suck. But Bob Murray does it terribly. He doesn't trade for young assets, he brings in old useless 4th liners and doesn't give time to young players who deserve enough. Comtois should definitely be in the lineup over someone like ****ing Rowney or Deslauriers. And why do we still have Manson? He should be gone by now. There were plenty of teams interested but Bob Murray is such an idiot and thought it would be worth it to keep him over guys like Montour and Theodore.

Obviously it's painful to watch a team rebuild, but when the team does absolutely nothing and makes their fans rot, it's absolutely unenjoyable. I'd rather be a mediocre wildcard team for a while than sit and wait for 5+ years to actually watch some enjoyable ****ing hockey. At this point, we're watching paint dry. We're losing fans and losing money. Murray needs to go and Madden needs to take the reigns.

Gibson's prime is going to be wasted on a team who's purposely sucking unless Murray does something smart ( which guess what, he won't )

That's a strong word for a team we haven't seen healthy in like 2 years or play a game in 10 months. Imo, you add 1 legit top liner in there and there you could see improvements from multiple guys just on the extra support. Like Getzlaf not being counted on as much. Rakell having more support.

100 percent agree, I would much prefer a live and die with the kids over place-holders, as long as they are physical mature enough to take on the rigours, and also the mental toughness/short memories and not in need of the confidence boosts of another dominant junior year or ahl. I would fire away with the kids and take the lumps over the guys that might be around for a year or two, or the guys that lose there value to retirement.

We still need to fullfill expansion requirements, right? That said, Zegras and Drysdale going down is for the best. I'm not shocked with how they handled Maxim Comtois putting him on the taxi squad because of worries in the d zone and how they have handled his development thus far.

I have a question about the taxi squad. Is it like having more available scratched players on your roster? So we can practically switch out players whenever.

No. It’s all about the cap today. They were over by 600k with 20 rostered players and 3 on IR. They places Guhle on LTIR to get to 81.5M. Kesler will go on LTIR next and they’ll have an additional 6.875M in cap space to then call up who ever they like. Hades is just complaining to complain.

Neither Drysdale or Zegras are ready. If Comtois was he’d be on the main roster. Hardly the GMs fault when LW2 was Comtois’ to lose and he lost it.

Hutton was a PTO and didn’t make the team, I’d much rather have the assortment of guys we have than him anyways

We can have all the interest in PLD in the world, doesn’t mean CBJ moves him.

We’re rebuilding. If we rush our top prospects because we’re excited we get a Casey middlestat scenario taking the slow approach is 110% the right call, the worst thing that happens is they blow through the AHL and come up a bit later, I would always rather that then rush them up and ruin their confidence and development.

Patience is key, we aren’t competing with Zegras, Drysdale, etc so why rush them before they are ready. Neither of them have played against men consistently before.

The team doesn’t go away if we don’t win this year and honestly we won’t with any combination of players we have available right now. They aren’t good enough and they aren’t ready

Taxi squad is basically AHL players that travel with the team. You get up to 1.025M if cap relief on this contracts. The ducks have ZERO cap space right now which is why the roster looks the way it does.

Wait, did the NHL pass a new rule that says you're opening night roster is the only group of 20 players you can use all season?! Why would they do such a thing? I was real excited about Zegras but I guess he's stuck with the Gulls all year! And don't they know that playing an 18 year-old defenseman in the minors is the WORST thing for his development?

Seriously kid, it hasn't even been a day yet. Calm down.

Respectfully I am going to disagree. You don't want MC playing the role of Rowney or Deslauriers. If they are not in a position to play to their strengths then they should be playing elsewhere. There are roles on the roster that need to be filled. Not everyone can be a scorer. Nor do we want our future scorers to develop the habits of a grinder. Its the same reason we have Manson. We need guys to play those defensive roles. I imagine that we waived Djoos over Larsson specifically because we needed to keep someone who can play PK. There is a reason why a team like Toronto struggles as much as they do. I doubt you would see much change in the direction of the team once Madden takes over either. Also looking at the Vegas expansion draft in hindsight is the epitome of a poor assessment.

I have a belief in 19 year olds should be in junior, and 20 year olds in the ahl and crack the line up at 21 to be ideal, but definitely exceptions to every rule and some guys force teams hand and force there way into the lineup. Definitely a different era with the cap and elc, but for ideal development I still believe in this theory. Give the kids some tastes and push the elc and team control protections. But just my opinion and theories, every team and situations different
