I don't know Harley but if he is a top prospect, I don't love the trade for DAL... Hintz is not THAT terribly far behind Dubios.

That 1st sways the deal...Either CBJ adds slightly or that pick goes down to a 2nd and a 3rd or something

Harley's tough. Would replace him with Dellandrea but I think it'd be worth it.

Dubois could be the next Seguin for us. I don't see the same potential in Hintz, although he's also a great player.

I've got Hintz as a consistent 50-60 point guy throughout his career. I think Dubois could push 70 with 30+ goals every year & Dallas needs a high-end goal scorer like Canada needs maple syrup.

The reason I keep Dellandrea is that I think Dallas is actually pretty thin down the middle when it comes to top-6 potential. Sure, we replace Hintz, but Dellandrea could very well slot into Seguin's slot when age catches up to him. I don't know that we have another player in our system that can fill that role. Maybe Bourque, but it's a bit early to tell for him

As a Stars fan, I'm perfectly fine with that. Lol. I figure whoever lands Dubois is going to have to overpay simply due to his demand, which is why I threw in a 1st...as much as I didn't want to

Seguin's only 28. I don't think he starts regressing until 2025. I do believe that we've got another top-6 c prospect by that point. I do like the thought of rolling with Seguin-Dubois-Faksa-Dickinson at our C for years to come.

If we’re going on JUST value, I think it’s a slight overpayment, but Columbus is going to have a ton of teams kicking the tires on Dubois. Whoever wants him is going to have to overpay a bit, IMO.

The gap between Hintz and Dubois is not a 1st and a top prospect. Hintz can play on the PK as well as on the PP. He had very good production last year and was not playing a lot of minutes on the PP.

IMO, that is what I would offer as a take it or leave it offer. I would not mind being turn over since I like Hintz just where he is.

Hintz, Dellandra/Bourque and a 2nd round pick.

or

Hintz, Tufte/Stranges and a lottery protected 1st round pick

Dubois has 70+ point upside in his career. Hintz is solid, but caps out between 50 & 55. Hintz is a top-6 center, Dubois is a proven top-line center. Eriksson was solid for Dallas before they traded him & a slew of other pieces (including Reilly Smith) to Boston for Seguin.

In normal circumstances, Hintz, Harley, & a 2nd/3rd is pretty even value, but I think you're underestimating how many teams are going to be kicking the tires on a 22-year old, proven top line center that already has a 60+ point campaign under his belt. The team that lands him is going to have to overpay a little bit in order to land PLD

If Dubois was like on the 15 Top Center list right now, I would lean on overpaying him, but he is not. He may well be in a couple of years but he is not right now. We already have a #1 center in Seguin who is still under 30. That is why I would prefer that Nill avoid the overpay circus that will happen if Dubois still wants to leave Columbus.

True that Dubois is quite good. I saw him in the Juniors and it was clear that he was a special player but the gap between him and Hintz is not that far. Especially if you consider the overall contribution of Hintz on a hockey team and the fact that Hintz saw very minimal ice time on the PP as well as less ice time overall.

Also and no punt intended on Dubois but that 60 points season came with Panarin on the team. Hintz has not have the luxury to play with a player of that caliber yet.

I like Hintz, but you are severely underestimating Dubois. The top-15 lists that you may be referencing are pointless in this discussion as well because they only take into account where a player is at RIGHT NOW. The Stars aren't trading for only 2020-2021 Dubois. They'd be trading for a guy that can be on their roster for the next decade (btw, Hintz isn't on any of those lists as well).

If you want to compare Dubois vs. Hintz & take a look for yourself, follow the link: https://public.tableau.com/profile/bill.comeau#!/vizhome/SKATR2019-2020/SKATR

And regarding his 60-point season with Panarin; he was on pace for 58 points last season as well...without the Bread Man

I am not saying that Hintz is better than Dubois, I am questionning the gap between the two. Of course Dubois will evolve and be better but it's the same with Hintz and they are not that far apart in terms of age.

As last year goes, it's true that Dubois was near a 60 points season but Hintz was on pace for a 45 points season as well as on pace for a 26 goals season compared with a 21 goals season for Dubois. And Hintz was playing less overall and even less on the PP.

And thanks for the link. smile
