I made an Armchair GM team post talking about the habs cap situation for the deadline is anyone's interested. Here it is.

Allen is showing some wear with all the games. Primeau should be playing soon.

Petry has definitely cooled off offensively and defensively since his hot start. This team needs him to be playing well for the team to thrive.

Leskinen looks uncomfortable on the right side. Unless they’re willing to put Edmundson/Romanov on the right side, Mete should be back in the lineup next game.

Oh yeah, and the curse continues.

This has been a miserable game. The lines were changed to these (before Perry took the 10 minute major):

Tatar - Danault - Evans
Toffoli - Suzuki - Anderson
Drouin - Kotkaniemi - Byron
Lehkonen - Staal - Perry

I’d guess that these would be the lines on Monday, maybe with Armia replacing Evans if he’s good to go. And it’d be great if Primeau got the start.

Mete on waivers. Would be surprised if he's unclaimed.

He's been bad this year. Not good enough to be a small defender in the NHL

At 735k on a one-year deal there's definitely a team that would take a flyer on him. Defensemen with much smaller sample size have been claimed, like Mark Friedman.

So the Mete waiving is interesting. The habs clearly don’t like him as an organization, which is why they were willing to play Ouellet and Leskinen ahead of him.

There’s a 100% chance the habs are trading for a Defenseman in the next 25.5 hours, and this move likely means that Chiarot is back from injury. The habs will now have $3,459,090 in cap room for the rest of the season without dipping into their accrued cap space.

So unless Bergevin is just doing this as a favour to Victor to give him a fresh start, it looks like the habs might intend to use more than the ~$2.7 million in LTIR room that they had before.

Anyways, I wish Mete good luck with his new team. He wasn’t appreciated here, and I hope he thrives with a coach that appreciates his usefulness.

Well apparently they did add a D and I didn’t notice. Given that they had it in their minds to lose Mete anyways, this is a fine pick up. I wonder if he’s able to play RD? Moving Verbeek keeps our options open for another trade.

No? Mete is likely going to be claimed. If not, he will be great in Laval. Verbeek evens out the roster spots.

I wouldn’t say likely, but it’s definitely possible. The habs have 2 contract slots (and 3 if Mete is claimed) in addition to $2.5 million in LTIR room that isn’t going to be used anyways. So I think Bergevin is in wait and see mode now.

Another winner of the Merrill trade is Arsen Khisamutdinov since he can take Verbeek’s spot in Laval’s lineup.

While I like the Merrill acquisition MB continues to not really solve the teams problem and go for the cheap option. Also hopefully Mete goes unclaimed, I really like him

Sad day today. Mete and Kotkaniemi were one of the better memories I have when watching videos with the Canadiens. Although he wasn't the greatest on-ice player, Mete and Kotkaniemi's "Mint" talk will forever be remembered. Best of luck in Ottawa Mete!

Well with Mete gone and Merrill in quarantine, Leskinen will get his chance to prove himself in the 5 games over the next week. And Mete will be able to face his former team in Montréal on Saturday.
