Who do you guys think is the best Montreal Canadiens player of all time? For me I think it's Maurice Richard.

Such a hard question, so many good options, Maurice Richard, Patrick Roy, Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard and i could go on forever

I'd go with Gros Bill, what a legend. The Canadiens bought a whole league just for his rights back in the days😂

When you could still do that and there was no draft, all the Quebec born players would have started in the Habs org

Ok slept on it, anyone else completely conflicted about this series/team?

I feel like if:

- Habs win, MB is right. Build a team with old character players as the cogs of the team, defense wins you championships, boring hockey, flawed hockey, old boys club hockey, hope for the playoffs and anything can happen, yada yada yada.

- Habs lose, MB is gone, team goes in a new direction, youth is the primary driver of this team going forward, Offensive smart analytical play style and not just getting lucky at the right time, new age thinking and being proactive, yada yada yada.

Habs lose MB isn't gone imo, this series showed MB can still make a decent playoff roster but i'd expect next year with a stacked Atlantic and Metro that then MB could get fired

Thats exactly my whole schtick. Habs, a completely and utterly inferior team, some how some way manage to win two elimination games against the Leafs (assuming the lose G7) and MB doesn't get fired because he clearly knows what he's doing?????

Guys, I am as happy as anyone with Habs winning the past two games but this team is bad. Its really bad. Price is literally the only reason we've gone this far. I'm sick and tired of only winning when the superstar goalie takes it up a notch. This is why Im so conflicted. I happy the Habs are winning but boy oh boy, lets not kid ourselves, this team is playing really really bad.

It's clear this team is bad, but Bergevin is the sole reason we have Suzuki + Caufield + Kotkaniemi.

We wouldnt have Anderson or Danault without Bergevin's master trades. He's done well with what he has, but until Molson is prepared to rebuild, I don't think there's a better GM for the job. It's not easy to win without tanking and drafting the top players.

We have KK and CC only because the Habs are bad. Can't credit MB for that. Whose saying another GM wouldn't have taken Tkachuk and Newhook? That GM would be looking just as good right now.

Yes MB has not failed literally everything but how can we continue to make sense of it all? We all know this team is bad but yet we defend him?

As for drafting top players, MB has had that chance. He's drafted 3 times in the top 10 in his 10 years here. Many teams haven't had that luxury and still did well. Drafting in the 20's isn't ideal I get that but you know what good teams do? They trade those picks for ready now players if they suck at drafting. Maybe instead of drafting a complete IDK in guys like Juulsen and Mccarron and Scherbak etc, trade the picks for some quality players.

Either way, this has less to do with MB right now as it does how I feel about this team. Can we support a bad team even though it sort of sometimes wins but more than not doesn't? Should we? Im so conflicted about this.

I will always watch the games and technically support the Habs even if Chiarelli was running the show but sometimes I feel like because the team wins a couple gusty games despite being a terrible team, there style, process and construction is justified. I hate that. I hate it with a passion.

I feel so bipolar watching this team because just last week I was calling for MB's head and saying how none of the players deserved to be wearing that jersey, and then we get game 5 & 6 and it completely changed my view. Just like you, I'm very conflicted

These games have not changed my mind. MB has to go. His philosophy is outdated and this team is doing well despite itself not because of itself.

Im gonna cheer this team all the way no matter what and beating Toronto will be a stanley cup in itself but i have this pit in my stomach where im happy for the Habs but at the same time hate them for being bad and lucking into winning.

Suzuki, Armia and Kotkaniemi have participated in 18 of the team's last 23 playoff goals and have scored 15 of them.

I hope we keep Armia. There isn't much room for him, but he's a very good playoff performer.

He's a very streaky player though. I wouldn't mind keeping him on a short deal if there's money left after Danault

Yeah for sure. Give Ylonen another year or 2 in the AHL. Armia is a good stopgap player.

It's scary because Bergevin won't sign anybody until after the Seattle draft so I imagine he already has handshake deals with these players. He already knows who's staying and who's leaving

If we assume that Allen’s replacement costs about as much as he does, the habs probably don’t have room to bring Armia back without a trade. (Or I guess by not bringing back Lehkonen)

We could also afford him if we don’t re-sign Perry/Merrill, although that’s way too close to the cap when you factor in performance bonuses, IMO.

So every single team that has made Tomáš Tatar a healthy scratch in the playoffs has made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. Just saying...
