We still need a 3C (or 2C) and another bottom 6 winger. Would also love another top 4 defender

Yeah, hopefully Perry, Dvorak? And as the top 4 D I have no idea, MB might just put a duck tape and hope it sticks there

Ideal scenario would be:
C - Danault/Dvorak
W - Perry
D - I’m not really sure. No options that are UFAs. Maybe someone like Justin Schultz in a trade.

Cédric Paquette at 950k is our most expensive center under contract

That’s hilarious.

C- Danault/Suter
W- Perry/Ritchie/Saad/Hoffman
D - Murray near League Minimum maybe? Otherwise a trade

Hoffman or Saad may be a bit too expensive, Danault probably isn’t coming back

Guess it all comes down to money. I'd love Suter here because he's worse at defense than Danault, but his offense makes up for it. Maybe we see another Hoffman situation like last year where he's forced to sign here or miss the whole year.

Aren't we 21/23? Wings are full, C is full with Paquette & D is full with Wideman + Savard, Kulak being the 7th D. Poehling is waiver exempt i think, so he doesnt have to be in the roster when resigned.

I was thinking C > RD > W

Suter would be really good, although I’m not sure how much I’d trust our centres defensively, especially because of how massive a part of our success in the playoffs was driven by Danault’s defensive play. Wingers other than Perry we shouldn’t try to sign until 3 or 4 days from now, when the market has dried up.

I don’t think any UFAs available would be able to be any significant upgrade over Wideman.

Not including RFA's signed (Lehkonen/Poehling/Kotkaniemi) our lines are (rough)

Anderson-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-Evans-Gallagher
Toffoli-Paquette-Armia
Vejdemo-Byron-Belzile

Ideally I'd want something like

Anderon-Suzuki-Caufield
Drouin-????????-Gallagher
Toffoli-Kotkaniemi-??????
Lehkonen-Evans-Armia

Extras- Byron/Poehling/Paquette

Any of those 3 could slot into the 4th line, but I'd love Armia to be a 4th liner with the ability to move up if any injuries occur

Suter is still a great defensive center, he's not Danault by any means, but he will be cheaper and will still be able to play the same role as Danault.

Time for me to panic. We badly need a top 6C. Suzuki + Kotkaniemi aren't going to be good enough to get into the playoffs

So times I’ve cried about the habs:

- Elimination in 2017
- Elimination in 2020
- Elimination in 2021
- Phillip Danault being signed by the Los Angeles Kings.

David Savard is not super analytics-friendly, but I bet on better results in a much different system. Joel Edmundson's numbers were even worse and he finished 1st in WAR among all Canadiens players this season. A similar situation is Christopher Tanev on the Flames.

It depends which player card you're looking at

Coming off a SCF appearance, this was Montreal's opportunity to make a splash and convince some cup-hungry players to choose the Habs.

With Weber's career in jeopardy (and likely over), and Danault's departure, we needed to act quickly to dispel any concerns over those losses and failed to do so.

I told my brother that if we left the draft without one of those issues resolved and still in possession of our 1st round pick, this off-season will be a failure.
They made it worse with a controversial selection (players have wives and daughters), on top of the usual barriers to landing free agents, and with Covid restrictions seemingly complicating matters.

I fear that failing to improve the roster within the first few hours of free agency has ensured a return to mediocrity.
There is still time to turn it around, but it will come at a higher cost now and could necessitate a kind of desperation that goes contrary to MB's normal modus operandi.

A disappointing off-season so far.

Mine is a projection of future results and yours is a summary of the last three seasons, hence the difference between the two.

Different system should change that trajectory, at least we should hope so.

Similar to Joel Edmundson who came in as a below replacement level player and had a wonderful season. Bergevin said today he was the most consistent player throughout the season.

About market value really. Concerned we don't have a legit 3rd line center, but this allows us to put Armia on the 4th line.

I honestly can't complain. We just need a good stopgap middle 6 center.

Well we definitely have all the wingers we need
Drouin, Gally, Caufield, Anderson, Toffoli, Lehkonen, Byron, Armia, Hoffman, that’s 9 wingers which means maybe Byron at Center or 1 of them is a healthy scratch/gets traded

I posted the lines I would expect. If we sign Perry, I'd guess Lehkonen or Byron get traded.
