Or Byron is out for 5 months which would explain Perreault

Oof. That puts him on track to return around January 1st. That would be 37 games into the season.

It frees up LTIR room, but only for the 3 months that he’s out, so it just means roster moves are easier in that time.

Bergevin acquired Marco Scandella for a 2020 4th round pick.

Scandella was traded for round 2 pick in the 2020 draft (Jack Finley) and conditional round 4 pick in the 2021 draft.

Bergevin traded the 2nd round pick for a 2021 2nd round pick and a 2020 4th round pick.

With that 2020 4th round pick, the Canadiens drafted Sean Farrell, who was awarded the USHL player of the year award.

With the 2021 4th round pick, the Canadiens drafted William Trudeau

With the 2021 2nd round pick, the Canadiens drafted Oliver Kapanen.

20 games of Marco Scandella became 3 prospects who are top 15 in the organization.

I'm hyped for Kapanen. I can see him becoming a very good NHL player

So the habs have $7.8 million in cap flexibility right now. Assuming Kotkaniemi and Lehkonen take up $5 million of that, the habs have $2.8 million in cap space. Plus if they sign another forward, someone like Paquette would need to get waived when Byron returns, so that’s another $950K or so in cap space. I’d love to use that cap space to sign Tyler Bozak as our 3C for this year.

Yeah, Bozak is the best non trade option for 3c

We have 2.8 Million and Byron's 4.1 until Janaury. Realistically they have about 4 Million to work with

That’s not how LTIR works though. Unless you’re below the ACSL (which for Montréal would mean being almost $8 million below the cap) you can’t accrue cap space while using LTIR. So this team needs to be cap compliant at all times. The only thing that Byron’s injury means is that we’ll be able to have a full 23 man roster until he comes back.

So there’s $5.58 million left to sign KK and hopefully add someone else.

What are you guys biggest W and biggest L in the Canadiens offseason? Not counting external factors like Weber's injury.

Biggest W: Losing someone as minor as Cale Fleury in the Expansion Draft

Biggest L: Blocking Ryan Poehling's way in the NHL again. Or not giving Danault that extra 500k if that's what it took.

Blocking Poehling is fine for me, especially since with the Byron injury he still has a shot at beating out Paquette.

I agree, the biggest win is losing Fleury and the biggest loss (not including losing Weber/drafting Mailloux) is not keeping Phil.

Even if he beats Paquette,

Anderson
Armia
Caufield
Drouin
Gallagher
Hoffman
Kotkaniemi
Suzuki
Toffoli

Pretty much beat him in a top 9 spot, unless he slots in at 3C which I'm not sure they trust him to. He's not suited for a 4th line. I wanted to see him paired with KK and Anderson on the 2nd.

IMO Poehling is perfectly suited to the 4th line. Especially if he’s playing with players like Lehkonen and Armia. He might be able to play higher, but he’d be just as good wherever he plays.

I would agree on Fleury, biggest L, I would say losing Weber, Danault got clauses he wouldn’t have gotten in Montreal + more money

I’d rather Dvorak, he’s cheaper, better and has term

I'd gladly have Max back if we miss out on better options.

I’d be more interested in trading for him at the deadline. (Which I did in an Armchair GM a week or so ago) But if the cost isn’t prohibitive I’d be fine with trading for him now, as long as Columbus retains half his salary. (Maybe a 2nd and a 3rd at most?) Edit: He did not have a good season last year. So probably a 2nd at the most.

And the issue with trading for Domi now is the fact that he doesn’t return until January or February, so the team wouldn’t be any better until then. Edit: I got the wrong month. He’s expected to be back for the start of December, which would be 25 games into Montréal’s season.

I’d love to see him back, but like you said, only if we can’t land a better player like Dvorak or Eichel. But I’d absolutely love to see Domi in a habs jersey again.
