Real good game, Montreal is definitely going to be a tough team on any given night. I think once everyone is in mid season form, they may not have the star power to challenge for the top of the division but they will give the middle pack fits. I think 3rd place will be theirs, maybe 2nd.

Fun start to the season. Anderson and Romanov looked fantastic for Montreal. Looking forward to seeing Leafs vs Habs 9 more times

Reffing, more star power, Lack of 1LHD none of this really cost us this game. We were in it to the end. No what cost us this game was CJ. He was playing for the shoot out again instead of going for the win. Typical old school mentality. Weber (unless there is a PP), Chiarot and Edmundson should not hit the ice in 3 on 3 overtime cause they are too slow. The coaching bit us tonight not any of the in game plays or missed calls.

CJ must think that if he can get through OT we will get a tie like in the 80's and 90's

Lets be honest, the game went as expected reffing and play wise. Refs were always going to make bad calls and miss calls both ways. Play was always going to be choppy and sloppy without a preseason game. The game was close and the teams were really evenly matched. The difference in this game came down to the same thing 21 other games last year came down to. CJ is unwilling to go for the win. Byron, Chiarot and Danault were all on the ice for the Toronto break out. Danault for some inexplicable reason chases the puck around the back of the Toronto net effectively taking himself out of the play. Then Byron, one of the fastest skaters in the league goes and changes leaving Gallagher to try to get back in the play and finally Chiarot takes the shot away instead of the pass. Does Chiarot not realize that the goalies job is to stop the puck his job is to take away the backdoor pass. Thus Toronto scores and wins the game. It was mental breakdowns from 3 exhausted all on the same play and bad coaching that resulted in the Leafs winning not bad calls or missed calls.

I'd normally agree with you on CJ playing not to lose in OT.... but Danault on this ice in OT he had no choice. The play started with the face-off and Suzuki was on the last shift. You can't go back to Suzuki again and KK was 1 for 8 in face-offs.... So Danault was really the only option and he never had a chance to hope off. Byron I'm all for him out in OT with his speed, but that change was brutal. Chiarot was meh, he did good in OT last season, but yeah, I think Romanov was fresh.

I don't mind Byron out there but his change was brutal. I don't mind that Danault was the only option at that point but why did he chase a D to D pass behind the net? He should have forced the D pass then turn up ice with the play not skate around the back of the net. It was a mental breakdown on his part.
