First Game Thoughts

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2021
Published: Jan. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pens had a decent first two periods and 8 minutes. Matheson offensively showed promise, defensively will be a long work in progress. Jankowski and Tanev looked really good on the third line, however, I'd like to see a true 3C come in and get McCann out.

ZAR and Kapanen will help pens when they come back as well.

What does this do for the Wild though? We're downgrading the players we have for... an extra bottom sixer? A third round pick?

Thats why I put in the comments "something like this". What would you want for those players?

It wouldn't really look anything like your deal. It would be picks/prospects, probably a 1st and an additional pick or prospect for both Hartman and Bonino.

PIT traded away the things (Hallander, 1st) MN would have wanted to TOR, there just isn't much left that meets any of MNs needs (current or future). McCann/Bonino base deal might be of interest at the TDL, but it's way too early in the season for MN to make a move like this.

Why would McCann be of interest at the deadline? Especially in place of picks or prospects? Third line LW isn't exactly a need for us.

He has team control and MN has JEE, Rask, and Strum as their potential centers for next year. McCann is an upgrade over 2 of those guys.

McCann isn't even a full time center and he's not that great at it. Who cares if he's an upgrade at 4C. Is that really your priority? It makes little sense to acquire yet another bottom 6 guy.

McCann isn't an upgrade over jee. Sturm is a 4c
Get real. This deal is laughable

Next year Minnesota will have Alexander khovanov, Marco Rossi, joel Eriksson ek, Marat Khusnutdinov, & two 1st round pick , one which could be a c along with 25 mil in cap room to get a top c

Considering Minnesota holds Pitt’s unprotected 1st round pick, Bill Guerin would be stupid to help Pittsburgh in any way, shape or form.

I didn't say he was better than JEE. He is better than Rask and Strum. A McCann/Bonino trade at the TDL is something that could be looked into. The initial trade here is awful for MN.

Khovanov, Rossi, Khusnutdinov had done nothing to say they'll be on the NHL roster next year. Learn from the JEE, Dumba, Poolparty, Mitts, etc of the NHL, and not rush players into the NHL because of team need or they were a high pick so they must be in the NHL. Develop them properly and not rush them and potentially stunt their growth.

Welcome to CapFriendly and a great sub-set thereof, Wild fans!
