Game Two vs Oilers

Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2021
Published: Jan. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My thoughts on the game:

Anderson shocked me as much more skilled than I had previously thought and that was before his two goals.

Romanov was exceptional and looks so solid to me.

Edmundson was slated for top four minutes but lost his spot to Romanov during the game. He looked ok but not anything great.

Toffoli looked good, I feel like he'd thrive in a bigger role.

Allen rocked the bench nicely.

Anyone else really excited for Romanov's future?

I suddenly am more okay with the domi trade after this game and learned that Romanov is NHL ready

I try not to praise Habs players, but Romanov looked pretty darn good last night for his first game. Looks like he may be a stud.

I've also been chirping Habs fans about the Anderson contract since he signed it, making me look dumb so far.

Anderson and Romanov played exactly as I expected them to. Although I was expecting the coaching staff to (wrongly) be more cautious and that it would take half the season before Romanov would be getting top-4 minutes. Happy to see they were smarter than I thought. Sad that Toronto will continue their anti-development strategies with their young D.

Anderson is a good example of the extreme biases that 99% of the people on here have. He was always far, far better then the pure lunacy that was spread around here. He was the perfect acquisition for the Habs, and makes his line and the team much better.

He is exactly what Toronto needs but they wouldn't pay the cost. This Montreal team beats Toronto in a playoff series 97 times out 100.

I’d put Romanov with Petry and make it my 1st pairing . I think chariot is good with Weber .

Yes, a lot of leafs fans compared him (and contrat) to 31 y.o Clarkson ... witch was dump.

I'll be patient with Edmundson as it took Chiarot a good 15-20 games (With a full training camp) to really acclimate to the Habs style of defense. Lost his stick and tried all he could but Willi's shot was just perfect it's not on him.

Romanov as advertised. It's a rare thing to hear coaches and GMs hyping their players that much so they knew something from the get go and weren't afraid to praise him, he'll make mistakes throughout the year like any other rookies but the intangibles are all lined up right in front of our eyes. His defensive gaps are good even against top guys, physical, nice outlet passes to exit the zone and quick changes of directions. I still feel that he's able to play RD but would be even better on his natural side, sometimes troughout the game you saw his instincts to get on the opposite side in his zone.

Anderson has it all and looking at the situation happening with Dubois I'll be interesting to revisit this trade in the near future as there's a strong possibility that Domi becomes their 1C in the short term.

Toffoli has joy in his eyes, he always just look too happy.

Bergevin struck gold in the chemistry department also, looking at Suzuki/Anderson and KK/Toffoli cohesion on the ice is a great sign after only one game! In the end we now understand Marc's point of view, when you're a GM you don't try to do everything in a team you don't think can win it all but when you do think so you make all the moves for it.

As a neutral fan, I thought Romanov looked really good. But habs shouldn’t rush him, take things game by game, don’t throw him into the deep end, ease him into those top 4 minutes. He will have some growing pains, but if they ease him in they will be more than okay, just handle it like the last game, start him off lower in the lineup and work him in depending on how he plays, if he sustains top 4 play, then work him up in the lineup consistently.

As for Anderson, I always thought he was really good and that he was the exact player the Jets needed. He got plagued with the injury bug and was playing with one shoulder last year. I was a little worried about the contract but if he can stay healthy and keep his play close to where it’s at now, that contract will be great.

I honestly think the habs should be all in on PLD, if they added PLD I’d have them finishing 1st in the North division. They have assets to spare, and with Toffoli, Gally, Drouin, Anderson all on longer term deals. They have a clear window to win.

I couldn't agree more. Toffoli - Kotkaniemi and Suzuki - Anderson are definitely have chemistry with just a game together under their belt. I know exactly what you mean with Toffoli's look in his eyes, he's got such a drive and he gets so much happiness from being out there. I'm not upset with Edmundson not being able to defend Nylander there I just felt like I was expecting a larger role performance from him
