Description
AKA Shaking up the lines.
1st line-Could get Saad going and could potentially jump start Mack and Mikko.
2nd line-Burakovsky can help out scoring wise and Landeskog can help Kadri’s atrocious defensive play.
3rd line-Jost played really well and so did the rest of that third line.
4th line- Nuke just got moved down because Jost was better, and the 4th line had good energy last game.

1st d line-Makar was ok, and so was Graves, they also play really good together.
2nd d line-Toews was probably our best defensive player, playing him with Timmins could really help Timmins.
3rd d line-Girard had a bad game, and Cole is our best defensive defender so it would balance out that line in both ways, two way line.

Saad put in very little effort in game 1, why would you promote him?

The 3rd line needs all the size it can get. Swapping Jost and NIchuskin is nonsensical.

Girard shouldn't be demoted.

This is what i'd roll with next game:

Landeskog --- Mackinnon --- Rantanen
Nichuskin -------- Kadri -------- Burakovsky
Saad ------------- Compher ---- Kaut
Calvert ---------- Bellemare --- Jost

Graves --- Makar
Girard --- Toews
Cole ------ Timmins

Interesting to see Kaut there, but I think Saad needs time to get adjusted and one way he could do that is by playing with Mackinnon and Rantanen

I put Kaut in there because Donskoi has been awful for a long time now. It's about time something lit a spark under him, and the threat of losing his spot to a rookie might do just that. Besides, I think the bottom 6 is a bit too soft aside from Calvert and Nichuskin, so we can probably use another guy who brings a solid and consistent game along the boards like Kaut.

As for Saad, he needs to work hard to earn more ice-time just like everyone else. Maybe he can also elevate that 3rd line which has consistently been our worst line dating back to before the Arizona series.

Agreed. Last night I though our bottom 6 played pretty well, but your right about Donskoi. And even if people like Bowers or O’Connor came in it honestly might be better.

I disagree about the bottom 6 playing well. I thought they were awful, with exception of a couple of takeaways and passes by Jost. Overall the bottom 6 got completely dominated. and had just one shot on goal between the six of them while also getting dominated in possession.

They weren't as bad as the 2nd line though which was dreadfully bad, going a combined -10 in the game.

I've been beating the drum about getting a legit 3C to move Compher to the wing for a while now. It was painfully obvious that it was an issue against Dallas, and even in parts of the Arizona series. This problem isn't going to go away, though it might be masked for most of the season by the fact that we have an easy division. Against the Blues and Vegas though, and again in the playoffs, that issue will rear it's ugly head again and again and again though, until we fix that issue.

For a third line center what would you think about Roslovic? Better or worse than compher?

they played like trash but its 1 game....their 1st game in 4 months. Going from 2 weeks of practice to real games, not every player or team is going to look stellar out of the gate. Its a dramatic shift in a very short time

I dont think there needs to be a radical change to the lines or pairings, dont put everything in the blender based on poor 1st period, a solid 2nd, and a lack lustre 3rd.

I didn't see the game, but here's some crazy stats for Kadri (While I scream "SMALL SAMPLE SIZEEEEE" silently):

-71.4% of his shifts started in the D-zone
-His CF% rel was 12.1 (CF was 59.1), which is crazy to me, given where he was starting his shifts.
-His Fen% rel was 2.7% (46.2 Fen)
-Expected +/- was 0.1 (He was -4)
-Grubby's save percentage with Kadri on the ice was .333

Crazy night. Don't think I'd be too worried though.

He's no better than Jost so it would be a sideways move at best.

It is only 1 game of the season, yes. However, these issues stem back to last season. The bottom 6 is still weak, with a terribly dysfunctional 3rd line. The PP is still woeful. Not much has changed.
