Yandle but why

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2021
Published: Jan. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So apparently the Islanders were interested in Yandle at one point? Disappointed but not surprised.

Goes without saying that I have zero interest in him and it sounds like the door has closed on a deal getting done. But I was interested in seeing how/if Yandle fits in our lineup.

Hint: He doesn't.
Trades
NYI
  1. Yandle, Keith
Additional Details:
The Islanders power play is bad, yes, but Yandle is not the answer lol. His point totals are incredibly deceiving; almost every metric beyond goals and assists say he's a liability at even strength and even on the Panthers, he got to play with players (Barkov, Huberdeau, Hoffman) the Islanders simply don't have. Just don't see a good fit here, unless Leddy gets moved for some reason
FLA
  1. Hutton, Grant
  2. Ladd, Andrew
  3. 2022 4th round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Like with the Parise rumors, I imagine Ladd would have to go back to Florida. Surprisingly, Florida would save about $4 million in this specific trade over the next three years, so lucky them.

Leddy would have to be involved for it to work

I mean if we trade him for Ladd+ not much else I'm into it. But agreed, we don't need Yandle.

I love how Lou + trotz always talk about young players not being in the lineup because “they don’t play the right way” and then they try to trade for a defenseman who has no clue what to do in his own end. Hey if you’re over 30 come to the isles, we’ll work with you!

The stupidest thing about this:
Per new cba yandles NMC would travel with him aka mandatory expansion protection aka adios mayfield or our first to protect everyone

Another reason why there's no chance a Yandle to NYI deal works

That's another good point and honestly, I think I'd rather have Leddy.

See, I trust Lou enough were if he wanted to sign Yandle to a one year deal for a low cap hit, I'd trust him. Sure, the guy has warts, but we are kiiinda desperate to fix our power play (granted I think the solution is letting Wahlstrom play, but that's neither here nor there), so a small risk would be understandable. I wasn't happy with the Andy Greene trade, but I was happy to eat my words on it.

But trading for him at THAT cap hit? That'd be even harder to move than Ladd. Hell no. It'd be an awful trade, I'm glad we passed on it.
