Proposition from Michel Bergeron

Created by: SevenLeg
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 14, 2021
Published: Jan. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Get that guy off my TV ffs.
Trades
CBJ
  1. Suzuki, Nick
Additional Details:
We've all seen Nick Kypreos tweet saying that Dubois' favorite landing spot would be Montreal and that Columbus' ask is Suzuki++. Just yesterday, Michel Bergeron, former Québec Nordiques and New York Rangers coach and long-time hockey panelist, suggested (more like screamed) that Bergevin had to get him in a deal revolving around Suzuki++, without trading the untouchables. 1. Nick Suzuki is & should be untouchable. Trading him for Dubois along with other assets solves nothing and destroys our prospect pool. 2. Keep in mind that the guy ASKED to be traded. 3. PLD only had nine more points in one more game than Suzuki who spent 1/4 of last season on the fourth line. That guy is delusional and it's time for a new generation of panelists/journalists because him, Mike Bossy & Normand Flynn are washed. I'm human and PLD is a pipe dream, but any trade with Suzuki as a basis would be plain dumb.

Dubois is more proven. If this is the best they can do then so be it but I think MTL would be adding. Whether thats worth it or not, I don't know.

To be honest, I think there's only two "untouchables" in Montreal and that's Suzuki and Romanov.

Dubois for Suzuki 1 for 1 isn't fair value?

They're roughly the same age, had really similar seasons last year. At this point the fact that PLD asked for a trade (reduced value) more than makes up for the fact that he is more "proven".

I don't know man. I wouldn't give up Suzuki for Dubois right now. Dubois is really good, but if Suzuki was involved in any deal it would have to be for someone even better than Dubois.
If I'm Montreal I offer KK plus, not Suzuki.

Only his contract is untouchable at this point...

Yeah that's one of the two reasons. The other one being that he is the face of the franchise and has been for more than a decade.

Is Dubois the future toews, and Suzuki possibly scheifele, or am I reaching in ceilings. Intangibles possibly higher on Dubois but the stat line may favor Suzuki.

This is a gamble but the positives can be worth the risks. PLD is an established 1C and has scored 20goals a season on a team struggling with offense. Put him with the Habs and we may see a 25+ goal scorer. Suzuki going to Columbus works for them as his contract is good, he has shown he can play a top 6 role, and hes a 2-way center. But will he become a 20+ goal scorer to soon to tell.

While I see alot of Danault or KK or Caulfield for PLD trades people got to realize what Columbus wants and these guys aint it. KK is close but rn hes not a top 6 center and columbus will need one, Danault is yes but hes more of a defensive than offensive guy, and finally Caufield not NHL ready for 3-4 years.

No idea whats gonna happen but there are 4 other teams in the race for him so lets see what happens.

value isn't based on whether or not he asked for a trade it's how many teams want him and what price. More teams in on him, the more he'll cost. I'd imagine a young 1C would command the interest of at least 10 teams, which might even drive market price higher than actual value.

Suzuki was on pace for 47 points. Dubois was on pace for 57. Also Dubois has been 48pts, 61 points, then 57(pace) points. Suzuki has one year, where he produced less than all of those. Dubois is also bigger and stronger (I don't like that it plays a factor but it does)

I think if MTL could get rid of that contract they'd do it, but nobody wants to spend that much on a goalie. And I like price I mean no disrespect. If he made 6mil nobody would have an issue with him and he might also be untouchable.

No, Dubois certainly isn't the future Toews. Suzuki possibly Bergeron though. He's likely one of those players who is certainly capable of being a PPG player, but probably yields to be a superb two-way guy. Maybe even ROR.

Hell even 8 mil i think would be acceptable. Not 10.5.

You say that like he hasn’t been just as good for the last calendar year.

If it’s 1-for-1, both teams don’t do it. No one’s saying Columbus would accept it. I get that Pierre-Luc would obviously really love to be in Montreal right now, but unfortunately a trade doesn’t work for either team, so he’s going to have to wait another 4 years.

Teams know that he asked for a trade, and that definitely plays in the value. No matter how many teams want him, they know that he wants out. Dubois was also in third NHL season with PP1 time, Suzuki was in his first and once again played on the fourth line for a good amount of time.

I agree. Suzuki looks like he's entering his 6th season, not his 2nd. He's got a very high upside, and his hockey sense is off the charts. Noticed him every time he was on the ice vs. Leafs last night.

If it’s Dubois for Kk or Danault maybe but not Suzuki he’s our best center right now arguably and an untouchable with I’d say Romanov, Weber, Petry, Price and Gallagher
