Description

It is still early, but I could see this being the frame of a deal at some point if both continue to struggle. I do think that White contract is less harsh and I still think the player has more upside. I added McCann and a 3rd to justify the difference and the Pens would have to take a player back. I put Paquette but it could really be anyone that makes the deal work cap wise.
For the Pens, I think White could do really good on the 3rd line alongside Tanev and Jankowski. In Ottawa, I think Matheson could overtake one of Coburn/Wolanin on the left side, and I think McCann plays on the 3rd with Tierney and Connor Brown, which is a solid line.

id rather pay colin white to be a scratch then have matheson in my organization at all

Agree on points above. Matheson, if he wasn't useless before, becomes even more useless as Ottawa's LHD side is pretty stacked next year with Sanderson and Brann (if they keep him). Not to mention if Wolanin picks up the slack from whatever is leftover of ice-time from Chabot.

I'd rather trade Zaitsev before White regardless. Both players, right now, have little to no value (White has more value than Zaitsev for obvious reasons)

Paquette is way too valuable to the organization, and a part of this team moving forward. It will take a lot more than that to acquire a cornerstone like Paquette.

Yeah, I get that. I just think that if White is scratched, adding a dman who can replace Coburn/Wolanin would maybe be helpful. They also add a young forward and pick with that. I get that adding Matheson could be a huge risk.

But would you rather have Matheson as a scratch and have McCann + a pick on your team or just White as a scratch?

anything that doesnt put matheson on the sens would be better

Yeah I agree its way too soon to call anything. He showed that he could be very useful in an offensive position. I am glad he took Pettersson's spot on the PP2 because Pettersson did not look great there last game and I think Matheson could be much more affective. I think putting him on the bottom pairing with Ruhwedel, someone who knows the system and has been here for a while could help him. He had one bad game but I think he could definitely be good in the long run.
