What can Koskinen fetch then? Koskinen had better numbers than Korpisalo last year.

If Merzlinkins is getting the majority of CBJ starts, not sure how they sell Korpi that high. And if Korpi is splitting evenly or getting more starts, not sure why they would trade him if they have playoff aspirations at all.

This is next year. Korpisalo is reportedly for sale because columbus has so many goalie prospects that need some nhl time.

Koskinen will be 34 when he's a free agent so not as much as markstrom. I would like to see him signed to backup goalie wages.

Okay, well with one year left on his contract at that time then, not sure if it makes sense to send out a 1st when the Oil can sign a few pretty good goalies at FA imo.

There aren't that many goalies that will be available and it is a group that is 35 years old on average. There will be lots of expiring contracts but lots will resign and several teams will be fighting over the remaining few.

To me at 5.5x3 you are paying him to take a 3 year deal instead of a 4. They need his contract to expire because they need the cash to sign broberg to a long term team friendly deal.

I'd like to take my chances in FA before sending a 1st for a guy who has only ever shared the crease equally. I get 35+ is suspect, but not on a 1-2 year deal, which I think they will all be getting, and could be ideal to split the crease short term next season with Koski. The following list looks perfect for that:
Long term potential:
- Andersen (could do a longer deal resembling Lehner's, but I suspect he stays in TOR)
- Binnington (same situation as above, likely to re-up in STL I think, but would be open to looking at him)
Short term potential:
- Raanta
- Grubauer
- Mrazek
- Rittich
- Ullmark
- Halak
- Bernier

Would rather try to sign any of these guys to split with Koski than do a 1st and Lagesson for one year of Korpi. List is pretty decent, should give it ago before a brash trade.

Now, a trade for Korpi in season here? Maybe. But still not for a 1st outright. Maybe swap a 1st for a 2nd/3rd within this trade structure, if Korpi is playing well.

Larsson is never worth 5.5 at any term. DeMelo just got 3x4 as a UFA.

There are maybe 4 top tier goalies in there, 2 of which (Freddy and Binnington) I see resigning. The others quite frankly are backups. You will have the whole league fighting over those 2 guys. Teams like carolina need a goaltender and will go all in because they feel they are a tender away from winning a cup. It's just not likely Edmonton can even afford those guys.

Koskinen is not a number 1 goalie sorry but he's not. When koskinen played 60% of the games his sv% was .906 and when he played 40% of the games his sv% was .917. They need a number 1 goalie who can start 55 games and steal games for them not just a veteran they can get on a short term cheap deal. They need a tender who is proven is good in the playoffs, which korpisalo absolutely is which is why he's my top choice, and is just about to hit his best years that they can lock up long term for no more than 5 million per year. If they get korpisalo with a year of term they can play him and they also can negotiate an extension before he hits free agency it's also easier to offer a 7 year term on a 28 year old goalie.

If you hitch your wagon to a 35 year old goalie for 2 years what do you get for a goalie after that? You would be standing there with no options like it was 2 years ago and the team would be fully rebuilt and ready to win with great defense and forwards by then.

Your points are all fine, I'm not arguing those guys other than Binnington Andersen (or Rask of course) are 100% solutions. But many of these goalies have proven just as much if not more as Korpisalo (Grubauer and Raanta would be my top picks). Why do you think Korpisalo is all of a sudden a bona fide starter when his career hasn't taken him there yet? And beyond that worth a 1st and Lagesson? Sorry I don't see the payoff.

Of course I'd like a legit starter. But Koski isn't bad enough (right now anyway) for me to see management moving on from him as a 1a split start goalie. That means you get another one like him at a decent cost short term, and in two year the Oil look for a long term answer in goal. Would rather not give up a 1st in that process.

Now, doing this trade for Kuemper, mid season this year? That would interest me. A year and a half of him is worth Lagesson and a 1st, with the potential to resign.

I do like Kuemper and he's for sale too because of cash issues in Arizona.

1)It is my belief that Kuemper will for one command too much money.
2) He has had a great defense core in front of him for a long time so his numbers are a little bit inflated.
