O'Reilly, Tarasenko, and Pietrangelo

EDIT: you said forward. O'Reilly and Tarasenko

I think our definition of superstar is different. Tarasenko is a 70-75 point player, which if all goes well, Suzuki might be, in addition to being great defensively. He isn’t a top 50 forward in the league like @TheFlamingC is talking about. O’Reilly is a great forward, and probably a top 50 forward in the league, but he doesn’t have gamebreaking skill that few other players have, so his sort of responsibilities can be filled by other players. (Ie. defensively Danault is a match)

And I’m not saying that the habs are going to win anything, but the Blues showed that it’s possible to win without the McDavids, MacKinnons, and even Matthewses of the world.

Heavily underrating ROR; I highly highly doubt Danault could stop ROR or match him in that playoffs.. and I’m a fan of Danault.
He was elite when they won the cup. Easily a near top tier player. The guy did win conn smythe (he wasn’t my vote; I had Parayko or Binner).

I’d argue ROR and Senko were

As others said ROR and Tara (I also love Weber and Romanov but they had Pietrangelo and Parayko who definitely were top 5 players (if not close to) in the playoffs). and NOT HATING ON PRICE HERE but Binner was on a HEEEAAAATTTEER.

Not saying price can’t get on one/ can’t be good. But JB was on another planet, which he eventually came back to earth from last year.

See my response to @leafs101.

Also, I think you’re forgetting Jeff Petry. Petry/Weber isn’t much different from Pietrangelo/Parayko. Again, I’m not saying we’re anywhere as good as St. Louis, I’m just drawing comparisons showing that teams built like this can win in the playoffs.

Ryan O’Reilly was really good, and I know Danault couldn’t touch him offensively. However they are similar on the defensive side.

I saw your comment but I felt that doesn’t matter. We’re talking about the TEAM that won the cup.

The habs are good, no they’re great. They got Toffoli and Anderson nee to the team with a full time high end Suzuki and Romanov plus price PLUS Gallagher who’s better than Tatar and danault imo. Then they got drouin who when he’s on he can play. Plus petry who’s a high end top 4 d and KK who if he can finally put it together is a huge add. Aaaand Weber who’s huge to them; a stud of a defender and quarterback.

But STL did have a game breaking player in:
ROR = top 10 player
AP = top 10 D
Para = top 10 D/ top 15
Binner = best goalie of the entire year playoffs and regular season he was unstoppable (he no longer is unstoppable)

Habs can win; but saying the blues didn’t have that GAMECHANGER of Mcdavid level is kinda false. They didn’t have Mcdavid but they had damn near close to superstar power if not more than superstar power as a team; let alone 3-4 gamechanging individual's.

They had Byram & Timmins on the taxi squad. I’d say the $8 million in deadline cap space, plus opening up a spot for the youngsters is worth it.

I love how I predicted this...feels good man. Lol
Also on a more serious note people on here are soooo critical of high draft picks that don't crush the league in their rookie season, like if Lafreniere ends up with 10/15 points ppl will be like he's a bust...not worth it while in reality he is 19...in his first year against men

The majority of us make one specifically where you use your CF username as the name if you are concerned with people finding our your info and stuff. It's just an easier way to get communication thru rather than email or over CF, where it can be seen by all.

Breaking: Buffalo sabres coach is dumb.

Hope Huttons alright though, especially hoping its not a concussion.

Buffalo needs there goalies too so a injury long term would be rough.

it might be suzuki by the end of the season

Suzuki is ahead of where Point was in terms of development when he was Suzuki's age. And Kucherov didn't really break out until he was 22 or 23 y.o.

They are completely different styles of players. Suzuki's development does have a lot of similarities to Bergeron though

They're both #1Centers on contending teams. That's enough of a similarity to draw comparisons in my view. I agree that Suzuki is on track to be more of a Bergeron type 200 foot player, but he can become an elite goal scorer, too. He's got that offensive potential.
