Have you seen Hutton play? He's not a shut down guy. He's an average defender (at best) that's solid at moving the puck.

I'm personally very happy the Kings didn't re-sign him.

it's an ok signing good depth guy, 6th man type thing. People over rate him. But he's capable.
Sure as hell a better signing than Jack Johnson was for the rangers.

So that’s 51 contracts now. What’s their plan to get compliant with the 50 contract limit? Trade? Pray for a waiver claim? Or is there an ELC player that can be taken off their roster (and won’t get counted towards the limit)?

It's been a really bizarre market this year. A lot of good players got signed for decent money (ie haula, Vatanen, Hamonic are all good players. Second pairng for the dmen and middle 6c for haula, but they got signed for third pairing, 3rd/4th line money with no term). Then third pairing guys who are still solid enough signing for under 1 mil like Hutton.

In hindsight I wouldn't have signed anyone in October. There is such good value around right nos

The CHL eligible players currently do not count against the contract limit, until the season starts. At that point, they'd have to remain with the NHL team in order to count against the contract limit. Drysdale, Perreault and Tracey are 3 players who would be sent to the CHL if the league was operating.

He's the best shut down defensemen in the league.

BAR NONE

Prime Chris Pronger was the last Ben Hutton.
