Three Takeaways

Leaf Period by Period Score:

1st: 83%. They had a great start to the game. Ottawa looked discombobulated, and Hyman started the buds off on the right foot. Ottawa scored on a 2 man adv. Really not a lot you can do there. Blame for this goal goes to Keefe.
2nd: 30%. They stank. Kerfoot got the monkey off his back and scored. Only bright spot in the second. Very disappointing piece of the game.
3rd: 50%. Leafs seemed defeated. Aside from Tavares’ goal and Fred’s two nice saves were it. Leafs lose, 5-3.

Three Takeaways:

Leafs Have alot of Work to Do, Both Offensively and Defensively

Toronto seemed to never be able to gather any good momentum. They never clogged up the sens net, getting the garbage goals. They need to work on getting the opposition away from their goalmouth. You can’t have that many sens unchecked in front of fred.

Ottawa is Better Than We Thought

The sens seemed to be always working hard, digging deep, grabbing loose pucks, and intercepting passes. Ottawa excelled at playing with house money and getting inside the Leafs’ head.

Poor Brodie

The guy is right in the microscope of the Leaf’s media. Give him a second, then butcher him. The guy is adjusting, hes gotta find his groove in the new system.

I dont know about heart, i think the leafs have heart, i just think they thought the game was a cake walk and they didnt need to try

Well OTT is not better than I thought. They’ve got some very high skilled kids, and they’re going to score some goals and win some games. They’re going to have games like this from time to time. How you beat them is easy, you bring your structure, experience, and work ethic, and shut them down. Keep them to 1 or 2 goals, while exposing their weaknesses in the defensive end.

A young teams kryptonite is pretty universally structured defensive play, however it is hard to do early in the season, especially with a short training camp and no exhibition games. But don’t worry. Ottawa’s record will get worse as the season goes on, as more teams come better prepared.
