Ryan Kennedy just had a solid article on this subject: He thinks it will be Suzuki and the Canadiens's 2021 1st. He acknowledged that the trade would put them over the cap, but also acknowledged that the Hab's cap issues are not Kekäläinen's problem. Even with their offensive issues, Columbus is still a playoff contender, so the likelyhood that they will only ask for futures would not aline with their plans to compete now.

I'm not saying that's the deal that I would do, but it's a deal that has also been floated around.

It is a fascinating sitiuation and there are so many different opinions from highly respected insiders and pundits: I've heard that Kekäläinen must trade Dubois soon, to Kekäläinen not being in any particular rush to trade until the offseason. I've read that it'll take Montreal Suzuki and a 1st; or Kotkaniemi, Mete and something else; or Danault, Guhle and a 1st; or that he goes somewhere entirely different. The only thing that I've read that is consistent is that the Canadiens are in on Dubois. I do not pretend to be an insider: all I will say is that it will be interesting. smile

I've maintained from the beginning that if Montreal trade Suzuki for Dubois, it doesn't make Montreal a better team. Based on what I see from both players, Suzuki is already at PLD's level. I would trade KK, Mete, and someone like Byron for the cap space (or even Edmundson?) plus a pick. Suzuki/Dubois/Danault is > Dubois/Danault/KK.

I agree: I would prefer to keep Suzuki, too. i was merely brining up points that were made by pundits that Suzuki might have to be included in the deal. Again, I am not necessarily agreeing with their assessments, and Bergevin or Molson maynot see it the way that may fans few the situation and trade Suzuki for PLD anyway.
