Without waiving Dell the Leafs' options for emergency recall would be Brooks and Boyd from the taxi squad or someone like Joey Anderson. Barabanov cannot go back in.

Ltir...

Putting him on LTIR would give them: $821,667 (as they would lose the 650K of cap space they have when they put him on LTIR - and therefore LTIR makes no sense, but even if they did it would be...) essentially the exact same thing as using emergency recall and they still wouldn't be able to bring Barabanov back up without waiving Dell.

Ltir would put them directly back to where they were before Robertson got hurt. Leafs will use Ltir most likely... depending on injury. Leafs can not use emergency call up until they start a game with 19 players dressed due to cap space, meaning dell would already need to be waived. Which would mean they could still ice 20 players.

It will not. Not at all. To get full cap relief when placing a player on LTIR you need to be as close to the cap as possible. The Leafs' are not and it would be near impossible for them for them to get closer before they would put Robertson on LTIR. According to capfriendly the Leafs' have $668,201 in cap space. Robertson has a cap of $821,667. If they put Robertson on LTIR they don't have: $668,201 + $821,667 in cap space (which would be the case if he could send him back down), they would have $821,667 in cap space - losing the $668,201 they currently have.

Under the new MOU you do not need to play a game with 19 players before you can use emergency recalls (although the MOU was not completely clear that if applied to all circumstances, and because this has nothing to do with covid they may need to play a game with 19)

Been over this with others... no the mou had nothing to do with this. In fact I think it was with you so please don’t make me post cba in here.

Leafs do not need to include Robertson when setting the ACSL... I believe but I will need to look into that. The other thing you are missing is that it is not the cap hit you see here but their averaged cap hit to set ACSL.

As Chris Johnston just said minutes ago: You are wrong. It is on page 19 and 20 (item 61) of the 2020/21 Transition Rules.

Robertson cannot be removed from the roster and can only go to IR or LTIR. Either way he must be used for setting the ACSL. Your last point is irrelevant to the fact that they would have $821,667 in cap space if they put Robertson on LTIR and they will not go that route.

Still looking into it but where are you reading this? Item 61 is not on page 19 or 20 and has nothing to do with emergency call ups?

I am still trying to find something anywhere that would allow a team with 20 players on the roster use an emergency call up to bring in a 21st player. Nothing in the mou or cba.

If Robertson is moved to ltir and replaced to set the ACSL like opening roster then no they would not need to include his salary to set the ACSL. I’m not sure if that is possible in season though.

Yup, I found that just before you posted it but thank you. Sections 61 says specifically due to covid protocol.

All the of language in section 50.10e says 18-2 specifically but says nothing about 18-3. So technically they might not need to waive dell to envoys this but would need to play 1 player short. But pridham might know more loopholes than a dummy like me thumbing through the cba.

Seen a lot of insiders (not Johnston so much) be dead wrong or right for the wrong reasons.

Yes, I said that in post 11. However, there is debate over how expansive the covid protocol is. Robertson's knee injury is going to keep him out for a bit, but that timeline will not be assessed until after an MRI. The MRI that Robertson requires possibly qualifies under the covid protocol, and not allowing such a procedure to be covered under the covid protocol would put all players at additional risk.

LOL.., loopholes. Could definitely see the leafs pulling this ****. It’s clearly just abuse of the cba.

But in reality starting a game with 11 forwards would not be the end of the world either. The loophole that I like here is no mention of 20 player roster just 18 and 2 meaning that 17-3 would make them eligible for emergency call up.

The waiving of Dell and Spezza would indicate that they are trying to get closer to the cap before putting Robertson on LTIR. (In this case I would assume they are bringing up Engvall and one of Barabanov or Lehtonen to get 500K closer to the cap).

So important lessons learned today... do not trust nhl insiders. Robertson will go on ltir and no they can not replace him before setting ACSL like an opening day roster. A good learning experience. If Pridham can’t do it, it can not be done.

Edmonton will claim dell and out of respect Spezza will remain unclaimed. This will make him waiver exempt.

Well yes, I don't trust the insiders, although Mirtle has been pretty close to correct most of the times. I was pretty certain that they would waive Dell and replace him with a higher cap player before putting Robertson on LTIR, but I didn't see them also waiving Spezza for a higher cap player as well.

They certainly can not use emergency player, otherwise they would have.
