Not a bad move, for whatever reason Toronto is not very high on Lehtonen yet, and that might prevent them from making this trade. I also think Winnipeg would want a little more with Roslovic being more proven than Dermott, but it's definitely a trade to help both teams fill needs. Not bad.

Don't know why the Leafs would give up an NHL Dman for another forward. Besides what the cost to sign Roslovic with so little cap space

More proven that Dermot? Dermot check his stats and 17 minutes a game Despite being saddled with two poor partners in the past two seasons and now Bogosian, Dermot consistently has been best Dman of his pairing.
Dermot 160 games 40 points plus 25
Roslovic 180 games 67points plus 6
Sure looks like Dermot has far more on ice value

I think there is something here maybe a 3-way trade between Toronto Winnipeg and Pittsburgh so Pitt gets Roslavic, Winnipeg gets Dermott and no idea what Toronto gets.

More proven? What has Roslovic proven? That he can be an adequate bottom 6 player? Dermott has completely proven he can be a terrific bottom pair defenceman. Dermott is fine where he is.

Roslovic was on pace for more than 30 pts last season so Idk what you mean. He's slowly becoming an amazing 3rd liner

Think you have proven the Leafs would rather have Dermot...17 points in 56 games , plus 14 games , versus Rosoliv 29 points in 71 games plus 4

Dermott has proven he can be a bottom pair D, Roslovic has proven he can be a good 3rd liner. Seems pretty even to me. Leafs fans are so high on dermott it’s so annoying.

He’d probably be 2nd pairing on Winnipeg. He’s an upgrade over what they have

So 30 points is an amazing 3rd liner? Geez what does that make Kerfoot, Mikheyev and even Spezza for that matter? Dermott has been across the board a terrific 3rd pair defenceman. And he has upside.

Dermott is frustrating because nothing in his game tells me he'll becomes anything more than a number 5 d-man. He's a good skater but he's not as good a skater as Keith was in his prime, he has a good puck moving ability but nothing out of this world here again, he's good at defense but he's not very good at it, much less elite. I could keep going

Like he's good but nothing insanely special

1-ever heard of fits? The Leafs have a much better 1-2 LD punch than WIN, so Dermott fits much better in WIN's top 4
2-Roslovic is just the perfect 3rd liner (as is Kerfoot). Spezza's a 4th liner at this point in time and Mikheyev could easily play in the top 6

Well what's so bad about being a number 5 Dman? Last two seasons he has played 17 minutes a game. Until the Leafs get a better 5, 6, 7 Dman he can't be moved.
Seems to be this fallacy that all teams bottom end Dmen are better than Dermot.

Why? Because giving up a sure fire very good 3rd pair defender for just a 3rd liner is needless? That means I am over valuing Dermott? Literally last season TO was forced to have Marincin in a shutdown role due to injury. Why on earth would we sacrifice the superior depth we have this year for a 3rd liner? We have many already.

Leafs depth isn’t as good this year and roslovic would greatly improve that third line. Dermott is fine but you have Lehtonen and Sandin who could all replace him in that role. This trade makes sense for both teams

As far as I'm concerned no big chunk of the hockey world believes TOR should make this move. I don't either. Because Dermott FITS the Leafs much better than Roslo

I still think their values are very similar. you can argue fit sure, but value I’d say is very comparable

So right now, the Leafs have 3 better players on their 3rd line. Dermott may fit into Winnipeg's top 4 but wouldn't that mean he is way more valuable to Winnipeg than Roslovic would be to TO?

Maybe in a vacuum but looking at both teams, Dermott has way more value to Winnipeg than Roslovic had to TO.

How? Mikheyev, Hyman and Kerfoot are better than him and that literally is the 3rd line.
